Retro Pay, Casinos and More by Years End says the Governor

The Governor closed the VI Puerto Rico Friendship celebrations saying he will find the retroactive pay by year’s end. He’s bringing it back from Washington. He also says the first St. Croix casino will open by years end and IDC loans will be available with 1% interest. Way to go Governor. Do we have to be good until Christmas?

Governor Vetoes Bills

He vetoed 21 of 28 bills from the 21st legislature. He says he can’t lock in spending when the bulk of the budget has not been approved, “It’s like buying furniture before you know how big the house is… That puts the government back on last years budget like Deja Vu. He signed the roads bill you’ll see 6 Million dollars worth of road work. He signed the block grant bill and thanked the senate for not arbitrarily trying to even up the division of block grant funds. The largest grant is to acquire and rehabilitate the building at 71-72 Kings Quarter for the Museum and Heritage Learning center

Our Schools on the Internet

That satellite link fizzled, but that didn’t keep the Territory’s education and technology leaders from learning how to wire our schools for the Internet. They heard teachers using new technology to bring their subjects to life. Science and social studies are whole new topics when kids use computers to do global research.

Sea Grant

The University has a new 39 thousand dollar sea grant for computers to conduct research on our oceans. The systems will aid research on fish and fisheries management.

Frenchman’s Reef Fix Up

Frenchman’s Reef is getting a facelift. They were open after Hugo, Marilyn and Bertha but there was some damage and they are doing repairs and refurbishing of the hotel complex. Still the #1 private employer in the islands.

Looks like Standard Paradise Conditions, Mostly Sunny, Maybe an afternoon rainbow. High around 88 Winds East at 10 to 12 mph. We have no major storms on the horizon

Finally this:

Our local American Red Cross has been the hardest working Red Cross in all of the American chapters. They have processed over 11.4 million dollars worth of aid and I bet you didn’t know they have only one vehicle that belongs to the Red Cross. Well that’s going to change and you can help. On November 2, there’s a Walk-a-thon for the red cross to raise funds for a truck. You can make good news by making a pledge, or contribution or walk in the walk a thon, better still do all three. Its our Red Cross and our own aid..

MMM – Attonement Today

The Million Man March anniversary is today. It is a day of atonement for all concerned. There is a gathering at Chase Auditorium at 8 PM.
