Sailors will do Community Work
The USS George Washington scheduled to visit St. Thomas this week. The Navy asked for a list of community projects. Governor Schneider had four. The Navy surprised him by saying they would do them all. The sailors will paint the exterior of Sts Peter and Paul, power wash the Animal Rescue League buildings in Estate Nadir, landscape around the Boy Scouts building and paint some houses in the Governor’s roof program. Now, the USO needs some help you. Volunteers are needed to help with food and refreshments for the sailors. It is our turn to return the hospitality.

Delegate Dr Donna Christian-Green Says there is more money
The Rural Development office of the Department of Agriculture told the delegate that there is 5.2 million in unexpended funds for housing loans to low and very low income households in the territory. Funds are available for the purchase, repair and construction of housing for the elderly and low income households. The funds are available through Sept 30th 1997.
Department of Tourism Kicks off Virgin Islands Callings
The Department of Tourism has good news, they are on he road with their annual Virgin Islands Callings program visiting travel agents and raising awareness of the Virgin Islands as a summer travel destination. They ëve been to Texas and Florida with representatives of our major hotels. One travel writer said, “I had such a fantastic time in the USVI that I wanted to share my experience with all the travel agents.”
They are Sniping at Government House
Lieutenant Governor Mapp says the staff of Government house are rubber stamping documents in the Governors absence without bringing the issues to Mapp’s attention. Calling on Attorney General Julio Brady to intervene, Mapp says travel requisitions, expenditures and other official things are being done with out him.
Department of Agriculture Says No Swimming
There are ponds on our farms, but they are not for swimming. The Department of Agriculture says that the fences are to keep animals in and people out. There are no lifeguards at farm ponds and you are reminded to stay out of private property.
CAHS Theater Dept. Has Theater for You
The CAHS English Theater Dept.. is presenting two plays tomorrow evening. African Slingshot by Cicely Waite-Smith and Eugene O’Neills The Emperor Jones – The show’s tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM –

Later today the Seafood World Company is holding a tasting of its new line of seafood products. That’s today at 1:00 PM – at Pilot House in American Yacht Harbor. 775-7887 Tonight Cooperative Extension Service has a free class on the application of pesticides from 5:30 PM – to 8:30 PM – The class is being offered tomorrow at 9:00 AM – to noon and again 1 to 4:00 PM – There’s a casting call tomorrow for local TV commercials. They are looking for 16 to 21 year olds for a commercial on Jeanbooks. Tomorrow from 2:00 PM – to 5:30 PM – at Emancipation Garden
Big Thank You
Hyatt is making good news – when they closed the doors on the Hyatt, there was a large stock of toiletries, paper products and other hotel stuff. They decided to donate all of the extra to Dept. of Human Services for distribution to the elderly and the schools. Hyatt soap in the schools. That’s good recycling news.
