Frenchman’s Reef Says “Please Love our Employees”
Frenchman’s Reef is closing in April, for a reconstruction job. About half the staff will stay on board doing maintenance and security and construction related work, and Nick Pourzal says the other half is available for other hotels. His crew is reliable, well trained, and dependable. He doesn’t want to lose them forever. Pourzal said, “If you hire them, please love them as much as we love them but please do not keep them.”
Reward for Capture of Escapees
There’s a reward for information leading to the capture of the two men who escaped from the Youth Rehabilitation Center almost a month ago. Nickolas Albert and Rashawn Lewis are still at large, now it is worth $25,000 to help find them. Here’s the Dept. of Corrections hot line number 773-6306

Vargrave Richards says the Agriculture Fair was the best ever. He was pleased to see the technological advances in agriculture side by side with traditional foods. We have the best of both eras.

New VISA Card Here
Pueblo and Banco Popular and VISA have teamed up to create a local VISA Card. Senator Petrus applauds the effort, particularly from Pueblo and hopes it is matched with a similar effort to bring food prices down in the Virgin Islands.
Reporter Hal Hatfield to work for Governor Schneider
Hal Hatfield of the Daily News is going to work for Governor Schneider as a special assistant. Dr. Hatfield, two time winner of Gannet Enterprise Awards and a specialist in Russian Literature brings extensive skills to Schneider’s Administration where he will do research and draft legislation.
Housing Police Graduate
The Dept. Housing Parks and Recreation held graduation last evening for the first class of the new Housing Authority Police. And there’s more good news from the Housing Authority: The Youth Entrepreneurship Program is beginning This will teach young people between 14 and 19 how to manage all areas of a business. The group meets every Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the Pearson Gardens Youth multipurpose Center Call 775-2741
New Area Codes
Do you know the new area Codes for our region. Lots of places dropped out of the 809 area code. Anguilla changes to 264 in March, the Turks and Caicos will change to 649 in June, Dominica’s area code is 767 starting in October, Jamaica will become 876 in May and Trinidad & Tobago changes to 868 in June of this year. Will we get a new area code – stay tuned.
Tax Help from BIR
Tax Help is available from the Bureau of Internal Revenue beginning February 24th through April 15th They can help you fill in form 1040 EZ and 1040 A. They can help you compute your taxes too. Tax help on St. Thomas is Monday and Tuesday at the Bureau’s Office in Long Bay.
Hearings on Commuter Incentive Act
Senator Gomez is holding public hearings on the proposed Commuter Incentive Act, that will change the taxes on our cars. The first hearing is Thursday at Senate Chambers St. Thomas. Monday on St. John. Wednesday on St. Croix

Teachers: Applications for the Christa McAuliff scholarships are due March 10th. Your principal has the application forms. The Commission on Education has public hearings for teachers, professionals and para professionals from all schools. Today at 3:00 PM at CAHS Auditorium.
