We have a Winner in the Jr. Calypso Competition

Last nights Jr. Calypso competition saw a record 23 contestants and the competition when on until well past their bedtime. In the end the winner of the primary division was Mighty C.J. – That’s Clive Steward Jr. of the Joseph Sibilly School. From the Intermediate Division Mighty Jarrandy from Dober school, and the winner of the secondary division was Lady Niba, that’s Rhoniba Lake of Cancaryn School

Computers for Julius Sprauve School

Senator Liburd has good news for St. John. His office has secured another donation of computers for our schools. This morning at the Julius Sprauve School there will be a dedication of the computers. There are 70 computers and they are 486 era computers in today’s donation. They were donated by the US Navy, they are suitable for Internet use and they will unveiled this morning

Louisiana Supports us on Landfill

Senator Adlah Fonsie Donastorg says that the Louisiana Legislature. Donastorg says to get our landfill cleaned up will take a special appropriation from the US Congress. He went to Lousiana to start building national suppor5 for a clean up. That legislature passed a special resolution in support of a congressional appropriation for the Virgin Islands landfill cleanup

New Port Approved for Red Hook

The Army Corp. of Engineers has given its approval to a plan to build a new port facilities in Red Hook., The plan would create a new passenger terminal, a new dock for 4 passenger ferries, a new cargo dock, and a rearrangement of the parking facilities. The new facilities will be built over the water to the east of the current facilities.

Red Cross has a new Address

The American Red Cross has a new address in Nisky Center. Suite 222 St. Thomas – the phone numbers are the same 774-0375

Frett and Bryan Hold Press Conference

Senator Frett and Bryan held a press conference to clarify their position regarding the proposed Hess merger. They report that from 1966 to 1990 – HOVIC got 6.2 Billion in benefits from its tax breaks, and only delivered 1.7 billion in benefits to the people of the Virgin Islands. Between 1991 and 2010 HOVIC will get 5.6 billion in tax breaks versus 2 billion in benefits to the people. The Senators are saying we can get a better deal with HOVIC. If not, then just pay the normal taxes.

Senate Passed Bond Bill

You already know that the Senate passed the Governor’s request for new bonds to refinance the government debt. Senator Vargrave Richards added an amendment that any savings that result from the bond refinancing should be applied to the Union Arbitration fund for payment of retroactive wages.

Ron Joseph is #1

We have a local man who has achieved the top in his field. Ron Joseph is the son of Grace Joseph of St. Thomas and he has just graduated #1 in the Air Force’s Leadership school. He is the first African American to graduate #1. Joseph is a graduate of CAHS, and Howard University where he was magna Cum Laude in physics. He also holds masters degrees in management, religion and engineering. That’s Ron Joseph making good news

Navy Show Band Coming to St. Croix

The 150th Anniversary of Emancipation Commemoration will have one more major attraction. The US Navy has agreed to send their show band to perform for the 150th Emancipation Commemoration events. And the Show Band will be joined by Navy ship USS South Carolina which will be in St. Croix in July for the festivities. We also have a ship here now, the USS Coast Guard Cutter Le Gare will be in St. Croix from today through the 19th

The Public Services Commission is meeting today at Barbel Plaza. During National Immunization Week there are free vaccinations for infants and toddlers at the Tutu Park Mall just a half hour left this morning/ Report Cards at J. Antonio Jarvis School from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM This is National Library Week at the Mars Hill Post Office they have a special Library Week stamp cancellation at 10:00 AM Tonight is the Cultural Night – King & Queen of the Band Competition at 8:00 P.M. at Lionel Roberts Stadium – we’ll have it for you live on WSTA. 5:30 PM Class of 1958 will meet on April 22 at Senior Citizen Building behind Pueblo Sunny Isle Shopping Center. at 5:30 PM 5:45 PM µ Joseph Gomez Elementary School PTA will meet at the Cafeteria at 5:45 PM Report Cards will be distributed between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM Today is the first day of the Annual Ladies Ministries Convention through Sunday April 26th at the New Testament Church of God. Sunday Service is at 10:30 AM and there is a Sunday evening service at 6:00 PM
