Our Teachers have a Nationwide Conference tonight.

There is a nationwide satellite teleconference happening this evening for teachers. The topic is the use of new technology in our schools and through the magic of the video-teleconference room, teachers on St. Thomas and St. Croix are going to participate in the nationwide event.

Governor Says: No Merger

The Governor responded to rumors of the merger of the Finance Commission and the Bureau of Internal Revenue. He says there’s no plan to merge the departments even if he puts Ms Bozzutto in charge of Finance for a while. He signed the Community Development Block Grant bill. He says the unequal division is a response to Hurricane Marilyn. St. Croix got more after Hugo, St. Thomas needs more now.

PSC looks at New Law

The Public Services Commission is going to examine the impact of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 on Virgin Islands cable television, telephone, TV, radio, and satellite transmissions. The new law effects us all. Now we have to figure out how to adjust to the law.

VITELCO has Trouble

VITELCO is frustrated by the slow pace of the phone repairs on St. Croix. VITELCO President David Sharp sent his apology to the users, but he can’t make workers perform the repairs. The union says the company is trying to force everyone to work overtime. At least they are still talking even if your phone is out.

Only Seven of Senate Candidates Comply with Law.

The Daily News says seven of the candidates for the Senate have filed their campaign disclosure papers with the Board of Elections. Candidate Vinnie Mohannani sent a press release asking why the rest are allowed to violate the election law. Only one incumbent, Senator Liburd, has filed the required reports.

Finance Can’t get Quorum – Leases Wait.

The Senate Finance Committee meeting about the Port Authority leases has been rescheduled to Tuesday of next week. The senators come and go and can’t keep a quorum when the vote come up. Does it make you wonder where they go? What is so much more important than the peoples business?
