Governor’s Roof Program is Getting Going
The Governor’s roof program is becoming a reality. The Contractor has been selected for a 13 million dollar contract to put roofs on houses that lost them in Hurricane Bertha and Hurricane Marilyn. 300 people have applied for the roof program so far. There is enough money for 1000 roofs. Applications are still being taken. You must be a house owner who lost the roof during the storms and received aid from FEMA or SBA. The Governor’s roof program has an office at Tutu Park Mall.
Sen. Bryan Arrest Warrant Issued
A territorial judge has issued a warrant for the arrest of Senator Bryan in connection with the death of his son seven months ago. The warrant has been on-hold since before the election in which Bryan was returned to the Senate. Bryan is currently off island and his return date is unknown.
Post office Getting back on Schedule
The Post office has good news. There was trouble with early morning flights bringing in the mail that was making chaos of the delivery schedule. Well, it’s been fixed. Beginning today you can expect mail deliveries at the good old times.
America’s Cup Store Opens
The Virgin Islands America’s Cup Challenge has good news. They opened a shop on Hibiscus Alley with T-shirts, hats, jackets, active wear with the Cup Challenge insignia. The racers say this Cup Challenge is for real. This may be a huge boost for our economy. Everyone is invited to get involved with this program. The new shop is on Hibiscus Alley in Downtown Charlotte Amalie.
Senators Too Busy To Meet.
The Senate finance committee scheduled to meet today has been canceled. Four of the seven members indicated to the chairman that they had other things to do. The revised date will be announced later.
It is NOT Snow.
It is raining in St. Thomas. Oh yes, it is raining! It may rain all day. The US weather service has issued an urban and stream advisory for St. Thomas and St. John and this warning should remain in effect until 11 AM. Stay tuned. But if it starts to bother you, just repeat this phrase over and over – Snow in Cleveland. Two feet of Snow in Cleveland and more coming. Pretty nice rain, isn’t it.
Conservation Data Center Opens
There is a new center on St. Thomas at the university that is chock full of geographic information, map information, soil conservation data. There is a program tomorrow when the Eastern Caribbean Center and the Nature Conservancy will show the products and services available at the new Conservation Data Center. That’s at UVI St. Thomas Campus Teacher’s Education Building. At 9:00 tomorrow. The program will be repeated on Nov 14th on St. Croix.

Good News for Nurses
Good news for future nurses. The University of the Virgin Islands has a new grant to $531,000 to recruit nursing students in Virgin Islands High Schools. The project will ultimately increase the number of locally educated nurses in our hospitals. Many of our current nurses are temporary hires, from off-island. The new project will increase number qualified nurses who call this island home.
