Governor Approves Upgrade to Police Records
The Governor announced a federal grant to upgrade the criminal records system in the Virgin Islands. The new records system must comply with federal guidelines for firearms license requirements and to comply with rules to get other grant funds. The Governor approved contracts to rehab office space for the Division of Archeology and Historical preservation and for the pre-school in Frederiksted. There is also a contract to improve flood protection in the Sub base entrance area.

First Casino Application.
It’s not an application for a casino, but the Casino control commission has received its first application for a license, for the sale, distribution and repair of gaming equipment on St. Croix. So the casino business at least has one supplier coming.
Gas Survey is In – Domino Outlets Win
The best price in premium gasoline on St. Thomas is at Domino Outlets with full serve premium at $1.61 per gallon. Tutu Esso has self serve at $1.51 per gallon. And the best deal in regular gas is Tutu Texaco and Nadir Esso at $1.51 for full serve regular and $1.41 for self serve regular.

Terra Nova Comes to High Schools.
The high schools will be testing 11th graders with the new terra nova testing system. At Ivanna Eudora Kean School, the test will be administered on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. 9th, 10th and 12th graders will hold normal classes and be dismissed at 12:05 PM. At CAHS the Terra Nova test will be administered on Tuesday and Wednesday – and everyone, wear your uniform and ID badge.
We have a Winner
We have a winner in the Juanita Gardine Elementary School Math Bee. With six teams competing, the Twisters team was top scorer and among the individuals, Makeida Phillips was third, Tinisha Brinkley was second and the top mathematician was Aaron Sylvester of the Tigers Team. Go Tigers.
Governor Schneider Met with Taxi Association
The Governor met with the Taxi Association yesterday to hear their concerns. The most important is the lack of public toilets downtown. While the USO building rest rooms are open and so are ones at the hospitality lounge, the Taxi drivers say we need more and we need people to maintain these public facilities. There was also a request to increase the loading time on Main St. from 5 to 10 minutes and the drivers also want to have the tourist overlooks and scenic stops improved to improve our tourism product.
Three new roofs
The Governors Roof program has three more roof contracts completed. This brings to 500 the number of roofs complete, under construction or in the contract process.
Two New Grants for Victim Assistance
Delegate Christian-Green announced that the Dept. of Justice is funding two grants to the Virgin Islands to improve our victims of crime program. There is 57,000 for victims medical care, counseling and there is 594,000 to enhance crime victim services in the Virgin Islands.

Senator Burke Asks Why Government House Project Doubled in Cost
Senator Burke is taking a tour of the Government House reconstruction project in Christiansted to find out why the work is taking so long and why the price of the project has nearly doubled. She is asking for copies of all contracts and change orders.
