Labor Presents Workplace Safety Survey
The Department of Labor wants to help insure the health and safety of the territory’s workforce. They’re asking local employers to complete and return the Survey of Occupational Injury and Illness Statistics which were sent out late last month along with the survey, there’s a booklet with instructions to help complete the forms properly those forms should be returned by March 24.

Mealy Mitigation
Among the goodies brought back from his trip to the capitol Governor Schneider told a Monday press conference he received a pledge for $200,000 from the US Department of Agriculture to fight off the pink mealy bug. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman said the territory can also expect to receive technical assistance the governor said USDA officials want to ensure the containment of pink mealy bugs before they spread to the U.S. mainland meanwhile Governor. Schneider said he is trying to have the V.I. development bank certified by Agriculture that would allow Virgin Island farmers to qualify for low-interest small business loans.
Lieutenant Governor
Just as Governor Roy Schneider returns from a national governor’s conference in Washington. Lieutenant Governor Kenneth Mapp departs for Washington to take part in the national Lieutenant Governor’s conference a spokesman for Mapp said while in the nation’s capitol he will also attend a White House briefing and reception state executives attending the conference are expected to hear from Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and Education Secretary Richard Riley

Here’s a mystery, executives of Alpha Star International say they’re not the ones soliciting phone calls over the dish service’s channel 100, thousands of calls have reportedly been made to the number in Puerto Rico since word first spread late last week that satellite TV service could be restored to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. A message posted on Alpha Star’s world wide web page says they have nearly completed the technical upgrades to provide enhanced service but won’t be able to say just when that service will be available.
