Governor Schneider Signed the Loan

The Governor signed the 106 million dollar loan bank yesterday amid wild enthusiasm from the onlookers. The loan will be processed into personal checks to pay off tax refunds and vendor payments. The loan was contingent on a promise of repayment from the rum tax revenues. Congressman Don Young of Alaska endorsed the loan and promised that Congress will protect the matching funds that back the loan. The Governor says the territory will repay the loans with bonds in April.

Senate Met Yesterday

The Senate met yesterday in a long and laborious session. They argued over whether naming the Water Gut housing after Ruby Rouss would hasten their repair and improvement. They also voted to rename Gallow’s Bay Gardens for Susana Ocasio, The voted to rename the St. Croix Container port the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Port, they honored Ruth E. Thomas by naming the CAHS gym in her honor, and Gordon Finch got his name attached to the Molasses Pier.

INS Opens New Office

The Immigration and Naturalization Service is opening their new offices in Nisky Center this Friday. The new offices occupy the lower level of Nisky Center for a total of 16,140 square feet of office space. They have a new secure facility, detention cells, and space for all the offices on the INS. IBNS will be there for the next ten years and maybe 15 years. The ribbon cutting is Friday at 3:00 PM

Delegate Christian-Green Meeting with American Airline

A group of local business people and Congresswoman Christian Green will be meeting with American Airlines officials in Miami on Friday to discuss the future of American in the Virgin Islands and specifically St. Croix.

Nisky Center Has Winners

Nisky Center is pleased to announce the winners of their recent holiday contest. Nisky Center merchants like Munchie Parlor , Nisky Mailboxes, Island Finanace and radioShack all contributed to the prize baskets. Winners include children Latanya Caines, and Micah Arnold, Among the adult winners were Jakisha Mills and Emelda Berry. Check with Nisky Center if you are among the winners.

Three Dept. Heads Get Sworn in Yesterday

The Governor swore-in Juan Centeno as head the Dept. of Finance yesterday. Lindel A. Williams as Commissioner of Public Works, and Joseph Aubain as director of the Internal Revenue Bureau.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Week

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is meeting tonight at UVI South Terrace at 10:00 PM not 8:00 PM like it says in the eh paper, that’s Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at 10:00 PM at the UVI South Terrace. Did you know it is Delta Week in the Virgin Islands? Tomorrow there’s a women’s forum at the UVI Student Activities Center, On Thursday the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will hold a free cake and punch party from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at UVI Business Administration building. And on Friday February 13th the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be working at Ulla Muller school to help the children make valentines for their parents. That’s the good news makers at the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

PTSC of St. Croix will hold its monthly meeting at the Curriculum Center at 5:30 PM – to discuss participation in the national PTA. Lutheran Church of the Reformation will hold a meeting tonight at 7:00 PM – to make plans for the celebration of International Women’s Month. Coming Up:

The Electricians and Plumbers exam is coming up tomorrow on St. Thomas and St. Croix The exam for the Barbers, Beauticians and Manicurists is coming up on February 12th on St. Thomas and on the 15th on St. Croix Food Fair Committee of Virgin Islands Carnival is seeking vendors for this years Carnival Food Fair. Applications must be in by February 27th to participate in this year’s food fair called “Miss Lucia’s Treats” which is coming up in April.
