The Fourth Virgin Is Getting Ready To Join The Family
Preparations are well underway for the Thursday transfer ceremony when Water island’s common areas will be transferred to the territory. The ferry boat landing has undergone a total transformation and a temporary bandstand is getting ready for the ceremony and entertainment. The official announcement says the Dept. of Interior would spend an additional 3.3 million to remote the old hotel, asbestos and all debris. They are also promoting Water Island as a good site for a hotel.
Will Senate Change Wrongful Discharge Law?
There is a new bill in front of the lame duck legislature now to change the rules on firing people. The law would replace the Wrongful Discharge Law and give employers the ability to fire an employee who engages in conflicting business, is insolent or offensive to a customer, is drunk or is disobeying reasonable rules of conduct. The new law will bring the Virgin Islands into conformity with the discharge laws in force in most states and territories.
St. Thomas Roadwork
Public Works is conducting an island wide road maintenance program for St. Thomas. They are working on Route 30 through Estate Bordeaux, Route 322 in Estate Nazareth and Route 33, the Peter Mountain Road. There will be repairing guard rails, constructing retaining walls, cleaning the culverts and patching pot holes.
Carol Contest in St. John
Do you hear what I hear? The challenge of the carols is coming to St. John. Now the St. Thomas’s Challenge of the Carols is on Christmas Morning in the very early morning at 5:30 in Emancipation Garden. Now on St. John the Challenge of the Carols is on December 26th at the Cruz Bay Ball Park Bandstand. Glenn “Kwabena” Davis is arranging for the details of a full group of carolers.
Gymnastics Training
The Olympics are coming here. Well, its not quite that but our Gymnastics federation is going to host a course for coaches, an Olympic solidarity training course. They want all physical education teachers, dance instructors former gymnasts to come to St. Croix December 27 through the 30th for these all day classes. Expert coaches are coming in from the US Gymnastics Federation There are a limited number of spots of St. Thomas gymnasts to participate for free Call Christine Routt at 778-1249.

Security at Airport
The Port Authority reminds you that security is tighter at the airport and with the holiday rush there are things to remember. You may need more time to check in. Don’t leave your car unattended. Pack your bags knowing they are subject to a complete search. And don’t wrap Christmas gifts until you get to your destination, they may need to be searched. Make sure your name is on all your luggage. You must be able to turn on all electronic gadgets to show that they are what they seem to be. And please no jokes about bombs or guns.

Good news Dr. Cora Christian has been appointed to the American Academy of Family Physicians. She’s a family practitioners and they take charge of the whole family’s medical care. Dr. Christian reminds everyone to get their flu shots. Flu is a virus that can strike anywhere. The season peaks in January and February. You can’t stop flu by taking vitamins or dressing in heavy clothes. But you can get the shot and they will protect you. Medicare pays the cost for the elderly. There’s Dr. Christian, making good news taking care of the whole family.
