National Geographic Story on Water Island
The 4th Virgin Island made its news debut as National Geographic Magazine included a Water Island story in the October issue of the magazine. While this is not a major story or one of those fold in maps, in the Geographica section of National G eographic, there’s a photo of Honeymoon Beach and short story. And there is a quote — Well, I can’t tell you but the quote is really amusing. It’s worth finding the latest issue of National Geographic.

She has resigned. Alicia Barnes James has resigned her position with the Virgin Islands Energy Office. But there was no argument with the Governor as reported in the Daily News. Barnes James reports that she is leaving to go into the private sector.
Governor Schneider Approves the Horse Racing Rules
The Government has approved the new Virgin Islands Horse Racing Commission rules and regulations.
Senate Gets Some Bills Passed
The Senate met yesterday and passed the 1998 Fiscal Year Omnibus Act. They turned down the pay increases for government workers. Another amendment would give charity bingo 90 days before new rules would take effect. They created a dollar a keg tax on beer. And they passed an increase in the hotel occupancy tax will rise from 8
Delegate Christian-Green Says Omnibus Bill Scheduled for October.
The delegate has announced that the House Resources Committee will begin hearings on the Omnibus Territories Bill for October 8th. The bill includes the Presidential Economic Commission and the amendment to change the governor’s powers while tr aveling. The bill also changes our bonds from priority to parity bonds. The Delegate is the featured speaker at the Congressional Prayer Breakfast today. The weekly breakfast, held in the U.S. Capitol, is open only to Members of Congress and provides an o pportunity to fellowship in a non-political atmosphere.
Champagne Chandler’s Poster is a Finalist
You can hardly miss the colorful poster of William Champagne Chandler, Mr. Universe and the Virgin Islands All time King of the Bands. And a hearty congratulations to photographer B.Thomas. The poster is now in the finals of the Poster contest of the International Festival and Event Association Pinnacle Award. Our poster beat 1,100 other entries to be in the top three. We’ll see if it wins October 15th.

Chantaline Todman is going national she has been invited to join the national youth editorial Board of the Future Homemakers of America. She is 15 years old and attends Ivanna Eudora Kean School. She was selected based in part on her excellent essay on the Role of the Father in the Family.
