United Way to Include Two New Organizations

United Way announced that the Virgin Islands Resource Center for the Disabled and the Victim Advocate Program have been approved to receive financial benefits from United Way. The Board of Directors of United Way reviewed applications from six human service agencies and approved these two.

Senate Finance Hearings Continue

The Senate Finance committee continue their hearings on the Government budget today. They are examining the budget of the Dept. of Finance then this afternoon the topic is the Department of Planning and Natural Resources

Governor Schneider says Savan will Rise

The first meetings to develop the Savan Enterprise zone will be July 31st at the Jane E. Tuitt school. On a long term basis, Savan businesses will be eligible for tax incentives and wage credits to revitalize the area. The Gov also says that the HUD Community Development Block grants will include funds for a community center in Savan.

Books for the Library

The Rastafarian Improvement Association is donating books to the Enid Baa Library in honor of Haile Salassie’s birthday yesterday. The books include African children’s tales, and African mythology. Audrey Muriel in the Children’s department called the book collection a real asset to the library.

Job Opening for Drug Task Force

The High Intensity Drug trafficking Task Force has a job opening for the deputy program director. Applicants must come from St. Thomas and applications are being taken through Friday of this week. The Department of Education also has a number of job openings for teachers. Contact the Office of Personnel at 774-0100

The Veterans Councilor is in St. Thomas at Buccaneer Mall Thursday from 8:30 AM – to 2:00 PM. The Veterans Councilor is on St. Croix tomorrow on Friday from 8:30 AM – to 2:00 PM – There’s a food sale at the Al McBean Ball Park to support Pee Wee Bulls baseball team. 11:00 AM – Also today Department of Agriculture will hold an important meeting for farmers on the Tennis Court in Bordeaux at 5:30 PM

Used Oil Permits

Department of Planning and Natural Resources reminds you that you need a permit to store used oil. Used oil can not be disposed of on island unless it is processed to eliminate hazardous waste. Applications are available from DPNR
