Delegate Green is Listening about the Omnibus Territories Act.
Last night on St. John, Delegate Green held the first of three public hearings on the proposed Omnibus Territories Act. Six people including Senator Liburd had comments on the act that would end the appointment of acting governors when our Governor is off-island, allow us to issue parity bonds and start a Commission to study our economy. The hearings continue this evening at the Legislature on St. Thomas and tomorrow on St. Croix.
School Deal Being Argued
How will the schools deal with the days they need to make up due to the late opening of school? The union officials say the teachers were prevented from teaching due to the condition of the buildings. Education officials want the students get the full school calendar they are entitled to. They are still haggling, weíll keep you posted.
Dr. Kean in Pacific
Dr Orville Kean took his UVI experience around the world. The Dept. of Interior sent Dr Kean to visit the universities and colleges of the Pacific Territories including Northern Marianas College, Univ. of Guam and the college of Micronesia. The idea was to share and learn from each other.
St. Croix Landfill At Issue
St. Croix Environmental Association elected new officers and they already have their hands full. The Governor says the St. Croix Landfill will be moved within a month and the new site is a guessing game. St. Croix Environmental Associates will be monitoring the site selection with care.
Ball Field to be Ready by Saturday
The Dept. Housing Parks and Recreation says the Al McBean ball field will be ready by Saturday. It really was the rain that caused the delay, not inattention of failure of the staff. The ball field at Cancaryn School is also getting repairs and will be closed until late in February.
Lorraine Berry Visits Fire Site
Lorraine Berry visited the site of the fire on St. John to get a first hand view of the damage. She said she will have legislation drafted to address any deficiencies in the fire service on St. John
Big Haloís To Fire Fighter Volunteers
Carlton Dowe applauded the 35 fire fighters from St. Thomas who came to fight the fire Tuesday night, and big Halos of gratitude to the people of St. John who came to help the firefighters. The only good news in the fire is that no one was injured and the fire was contained before it did more damage.
Demo Party Gets New Officers
The Democratic Party of St. Thomas met last evening to elect new officers. They selected John DeJongh to be Vice Chairman, Delores Thomas is the new secretary, Kevin Rodriquez as treasurer and Sergio Feliciano as Sergeant-at-Arms.

Dober Spanish Club Seeks Support
The Dober school is proud to have formed a Spanish language club for 25 students in the 4th 5th and 6th grades. They are trying to give new life to an old club and they are seeking financial support to take the students on a trip to Puerto Rico.
No Food Stamp Discrimination
The Dept. of Human Services has issued a statement to confirm that there is no discrimination in the food stamp program based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, political beliefs or religion. If you believe you have been discriminated against, the Dept. of Human Services can refer you to their higher authority in the states to hear your concern.
