Teachers Skills Set

Department of Education is pleased to announce that it has established the new minimum standard for teachers in reading, writing and mathematics. The new Praxis Examination is being used to screen potential teachers for our schools. By setting of the passing score the Department of Education completes the process called for in the Improvement Act of 1992. That’s another step to a better education for the children.

Eclipse is Today

Today is the eclipse of the sun. We will see 90% of the sun light disappear. The peak of the eclipse is between 1 o’clock and 2 o’clock. Normally if you look at he sun your eyes tell you to look away quickly, but during the eclipse the moon will cover the sun and we will have a kind of twilight in mid day. Don’t look directly at the sun during the eclipse. It could hurt your eyes. Use welders glasses, eclipse glasses or a pin hole viewer. If you look at the ground where the sun light filters through the trees, you will see images of the eclipse on the ground. Those of you with welders glasses and special viewers are encouraged to share them with your neighbors.

Water Island Report

OK loyal readers: Alex is going away for a week. I’ll be back. It’s a promise. Judi Shimel will do the Good News Headlines while I am gone and she probably won’t have much Water Island news. So don’t expect anything earth shattering. Not that you were expecting anything. See you next week.

It’s your Good News! You tell us and we’ll tell everyone.
