Water Island joined the Virgin Island

The transfer of part of Water Island to the Territorial Government happened this morning at a ceremony on at Phillips’ Landing. The Governor, his Cabnet, all the senators, and officials from all branches of the government were there to witness the signing of the deed to the common areas. Leslie Turner extended the President Clintons best wishes for the new Virgin Island. Congressman Victor Frazer made it clear that it took lots of people to make this transfer happen and Lt Governor Mapp pointed out the responsibilities are part of ownership. The flag of the Territory now flies over Water Island.

Water Island Parade Tomorrow

There will be a parade tomorrow to mark this occasion with marching bands, Steel Orchestras, the Traditional Indians, Elskoe and Associates, Hugga Bunch and more. The parade begins at 6:00 PM Friday from Market Square to Emancipation Garden. Participants are to be in place by 5:00 PM. Parking restrictions will be in effect to keep the parade route clear.

Nuclear Free Zone

Water Island isn’t the only news. Several of ourt officials are calling on President Clinton to declare the Caribbean and the Virgin Islands a Nuclear Free Zone. The idea is that a declaration would prevent nuclear waste from passing near here. Fonsie Donastorg says the Virgin Islands may be small but we are Americans and we want our leader to give this his attention.

Gem Help

Vera Falu of the Licensing and Consumer Affairs announced that they have engaged the services of Robert James of the Caribbean Gemeological Instuitute to help in assisting visitors who have questions or problems with jewelry or gemstones purchased in the Virgin Islands. There have been recent complaints in the news lately and this step is one way to help resolve disputres.

Sants Coming to Reichhold Center for the Performing Arts

Santa’s Coming to the Reichhold Center on Sunday. Care of ATT of the Virgin Islands, CellularOne, Sea Chest and the Council on the Arts. There are gifts for kids under 12 and the musical program includes medleys, dance numbers and a Musical Play by the Institute of Performing Arts. And Cell One is giving kids free calls to the North Pole to talk with Santa. Its Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Reichhold Center and while you are at the Reichhold Center don’t miss the art exhibit by Mercedez Berruz with her oil paintings and water colors on display from now through the end of January.
