Islands of the Year!

The readers of Caribbean World Magazine voted the USVI the islands of the year in their annual poll of favotites. The governor received a plaque from officials of the magazine announcing that we are the Islands Of The Year, For 1995.

Police Meetings

The police are inviting you to a meeting to get to know them better. They want to take the opportunity to build trust, respect, form a partnership and bond with you. If you live in one of the downtown neighborhoods there’s a special meeting this evening at 7 PM at the Police Command near the Ft Christian Parking Lot. Expect more of these meetings.

Volcano Update

Is the Monserrat volcano a threat to us. No not directly, the volcano is not going to bother us except for the slight haze. There is a slight chance of an earthquake or a tsunami. The risks are small, but it’s wise to know what to do in the event of an earthquake or other major event.

Biodiversity Conference

Do you know what Biodiversity is? Dr David Nellis of the Fish and Wildlife Division has been selected and will represent the Virgin Islands in a conference on biodiversity sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution. Biodiversity is about all the different species living together here and Dr Nellis will learn more about how to study our environment.

Don’t rip off the wrecks.

A diver took artifacts off the Wreck of the Rhone. He’s been arrested in the British Virgin Islands and he’s going to trial today. There’s swift justice. The Rhone and Dead Chest island are part of an 800 acre park and the British Virgin Islands don’t want it disrupted. If you hear about any similar theft call 494-3904

Thunder over Charlotte Amalie

Here’s news with a bang. MSI is going to be the leading co-sponsor of the Carnival Fireworks. Tom Brunt said the program is worth the investment and he is calling for others to come support The Thunder over Charlotte Amalie.

Weather: 85% chance of sunshine today possible showers. A cold front over Jamaica and Haiti may bring us showers tomorrow. Winds light southeast 5 knots.

  • League of Women Voters is holding their annual meeting Saturday at 8:30 at Best Western Emerald Beach Hotel. The speaker is Joan Harrigan Farrelly.
  • Virgin Islands Business and Professional Women have a scholarship competition. Applications are available call 693- 5270 The deadline is April 15th
