This Week was Excellent
Ras Regg won the Calypso King Competition, the Governor sold the bonds and Carnival is at the peak. And we have fireworks tonight. Yesterday’s Children’s parade was a wonderful experience for all. The weather was perfect and the children in 60 troupes, floupes and groups. It took four hours for the beginning with Ulla Muller to the end with the traditional Indians. Today we have the adult parade with 55 entries beginning around 10:00 AM from the Western cemetery to Lionel Roberts Stadium.

Senate Finance Committee to Meet Monday
The Senate will do business on Monday, the finance committee is scheduled to meet on Monday with a long series of small requisitions from Dept. of Public Works and Department of Education. Tuesday is a full legislative session with bills to reprogram road funds, the bill to reduce the number of senators to 9, the Attorney General election topic, transferring VITRAN to its employees, and more.
Science Bowl Coming Up
National Science Bowl is coming up on May 3rd as the students from All Saints Cathedral School compete with teams from all over America. They will have to answer questions in astronomy, biology, physics and more in front of a group of judges including Bill Nye the Science Guy. The event is sponsored by the US Dept. of Energy.
Moot Court Coming to Virgin Islands
It’s time for the annual moot court competition and this year is a topic about parental responsibility for children’s acts that will be the topic of the moot court. Members of the Bar Association are helping their teams research the topic and the battle of the court will be argued on May 8th
Junior Statesmen
We have an annual contest for students to participate in the Junior Statesmen Summer enrichment program. This year 34 Virgin Islands students have been selected to attend these programs at prestigious colleges in the US.
Gomez Gets Bills Passed
Senator Gomez announced that she is pleased to have passed two pieces of legislation through the Government Operations Committee, one will bring the crime of Car Jacking under the territorial court, and another authorizes the government to negotiate for a new cemetery.
Fireworks by Grucci
All Boat Owners and residents are reminded that coming up on Saturday night at 9:00 PM there will be a fireworks display over Charlotte Amalie Harbor for approximately 30 minutes. The fireworks will be set off from a barge in Charlotte Amalie Harbour and no unauthorized boats will be permitted within 1500 feet of the barge. The Fireworks are by the Grucci family. They’ve been doing fireworks for 100 years and they did the Statue of Liberty ffireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge, now they areperforming this evening at 9:00 PM Charlotte Amalie Harbor
