Governor Gets 2 Million in HUD Funds.

Government House announced today that the Governor has secured 2 million dollars in Housing and Urban development Funding for a variety of projects in the Virgin Islands. These funds are for our community development block grants. Some of the proposed recipients are $125,000 for the Department of Education to develop the Gramboko building for education and training, $250,000 to build a victims of domestic violence shelter in ST John. $295,000 to rehabilitate the Dorsch Theater on St. Croix. There are small grants too like $77,000 for the Downstreet People46,000 for life saving training and 25,000 for computer training for the disabled. 07/18/97 11:31 AM

The Governor announced the nomination of Joseph Aubain for Director of the Internal Revenue Bureau The Virgin Islands Commission on the Status of Women under Patricia Rhymer Todman is getting into action to study spouse abuse, Preventive health, working conditions and child support.

Virgin Islands Cup Challenge Launches Swimming Program

The Virgin Islands America’s Cup Challenge is opening a swimming program for Virgin Islands youth in association with Kathy Huttel and the St. Thomas Swimming Association. 60 participants will learn to swim in the J. Antonio Jarvis School Summer D-Lite Camp and another 54 from the Virgin Islands Housing Authority Camp. That’s the America’s Cup Challenge in the swim.

This evening Elskoe and assoc are holding a parking lot jam with Fusion band and food. Come to Fort Christian Parking Lot this evening. It’s Time for Plan B in the Governor’s Roof Protection Program. A meeting of all roof contractors is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM – at CAHS, and on Sunday July 20 at the St. Croix Education Complex . Dean Luke says be there and be on time we have a lot of roof work to do. CAHS Class of 78 is meeting Sunday 4:30 PM – at Wendy’s on Mandela Circle. Also on Sunday YES is hosting a drug free alcohol free event at Insomnia for youth from 6 to 10 PM.
