Caneel Bay Is Booked and It’s Not Even Open.

Here’s a good sign for the coming season. Even though Caneel Bay resort on St. John is still closed, the reservations department is booking rooms like crazy. The first two weeks after they open are SOLD OUT and the rest of November is going too.

Phone’s on Hold

VITELCO is having trouble with vandalism. On St. Croix some phones are still out. Some St. Thomas homes lost phones over the weekend when a cable near Beltjen road was slashed. Vitelco says if you lose service go to a phone that works and report the trouble to 912. VITELCO and the Union are still negotiating while the old contract remains in effect.

UVI has new Partners

University of the Virgin Islands opened new relationships with the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the University of Ghana in Africa. These new relationships will involve information exchanges, mutual teaching, joint research a faculty exchange and student exchange program.

Teacher’s Conference Coming

The Federation of Teachers is holding its QuEST Conference on Wednesday of this week. With a focus on innovative programs in our schools. Educators with innovative programs will be meet in one forum. There’s a forum on the positive programs like Scouts and Sparks, and a work shop on thinking math, and making learning math fun. All faculty in the district schools get the day off to attend the forum.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence cuts across all economic, racial, religious, ethnic groups. It effects all ages, and lifestyles. Sometimes domestic violence gets hidden by shame. It can have catastrophic consequences on children. As events come up this month we’ll keep you posted.

Fire Safety

This is a special message to the lady who called after the news to say she was going to the store to buy a fire extinguisher. This week is Fire Prevention week. The schools are teaching the children about fire safety. But how about your home? Is there a fire extinguishers in your kitchen? Your work place? Look around you. Can you put out a fire where you are right now?
