Saturday was NetDay
Saturday was NetDay at Ivanna Eudora Kean School and John Woodson School on St. Croix. A crew of over 200 volunteers turned out to wire the classrooms and prepare the schools for the Internet. Dr. Clinton Stapleton said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. The next NetDay is in April when Julius Sprauve School and the Education Complex get wired for the Internet. Volunteers will be needed again.
The Governor designated April as Library Media Month in the Virgin Islands. It will be a good time to help the schools access the Information Superhighway. 03/24/97 8:03 AM

Gov. About to Veto the Casino Amendments
The Gov. is preparing to veto the Casino Control Commission Amendments. Several Senators called for an explanation. The amendments are the result of months of research and input from the Commission. These are supposed to be investor friendly and just what’s needed to land the first casino. Everyone is listening for the Governor’s reasoning. We’ll keep you posted. 03/24/97 7:27 AM
Gomez Says Release University Funds
Senator Gomez called for an immediate release of funds for the University. She says “Bring the allotments up to date through the second quarter of 1997” Many people own their success to this 35 year old institution. It deserves special consideration to insure financial stability. Gomez also canceled the public hearings scheduled for tonight at the Boulon Center Wednesday on St. Thomas too. Who is in Charge at the Hospital
At the Senate health committee hearings on Friday, There was more discussed than just the overdue payments to vendors Senator Liburd says he is getting a long term plan for mental health care in the Virgin Islands and the confusion over who is in charge also came to light. The Senators called upon the Hospital Board to renew its authority over the oversight of Schneider Hospital. 03/24/97 7:39 AM
Youth Learning About Entrepreneurship
Four youngsters from the Virgin Islands Housing Authority are on their way to Greensboro North Carolina today for the 5th annual youth entrepreneurship symposium which was organized by North Carolina AT&T University Cooperative Extension Service. The members will tour a variety of businesses and visit the Greensboro Housing Authority. And attend seminars on How to identify business opportunities, How to sell your product or your service and the legal aspects of entrepreneurship. . t03/24/97 9:42 AM
Roof Replacement Program Moving
The Governor’s Roof replacement program has good news. 3 roofs are complete, 20 more are under construction right now and 564 more roofs are in the pipeline. The goal is to hit 1200. To make it easier, the Governor’s Roof replacement offices are moving to the Rensco building below the Dept. of Tourism on Moravian Highway. Going On:
Melvin Evans Highway will be closed Monday between the east and west airport intersections for road repairs. WAPA says feeder 9D is down. That feeds St. John, Nadir, Vessup Bay Nazareth, Compass point and out east. No word yet on how long it will be down. 03/24/97 7:22 AM
