The US Virgin Islands is a Cover Girl

Governor Signed Doc James Racetrack Lease

The Governor hailed the transfer of the Randall “Doc” James Race Track to the Virgin Islands Racing Commission as a milestone for St. Croix. The territory should recover over a half million dollars from simulcast horse racing at the track. The horse racing facility is now connected to Philadelphia Park, Aquaduct, Tampa Bay Downs, Suffolk Downs, and other race tracks around America.

Governor Signed 5 Contracts

The Governor signed 5 contracts worth more than a million dollars. The signed a contract with Dr. Alexis Ramos to provide medical services for the Queen Louise Home and a contract to provide support services for at-risk youth. He signed a contract for a redemption center for aluminum and plastic cans and bottles. He signed a contract to install a chain link fence and repave roads at the Molasses Pier. And he signed a contract to support Jodie Bryan through nursing school requiring her to return to the Virgin Islands after schooling.

The Senate Economic Development Committee is Meeting Today

There is a press conference going on now with the minority senators presenting their version of the first half of the legislative season. They are pointing out the successes of the minority and the programs that were stopped by the other senators. The Senate Committee on Economic Development is meeting today at 6:00 PM to consider a bill to create a Board of General Construction Contractors. They are also considering changes to the Code for Barbers and Beauticians. On Tuesday the Legislature will come into full session, with one nomination to the Public television Board and a long list of leases. They will also consider bills to prevent health care professionals from charging 100% up front.

Ivanna Eudora Kean School And CAHS are closed

People are asking – CAHS and Ivanna Eudora Kean School are both closed today. There is no school today and also on Tuesday and Wednesday for the turnaround days.

Two More Students go For Network Training

The students are the ones who will understand the Internet the best. Now, Liston Davis says he is sending two 9th graders from Ivanna Eudora Kean School to the Olympia School District near Washington DC to study computer networking. Mark Yarde and Daryl Smith and a chaperone will be back on the 29th after taking the Generation Y Computer Training.

St. Croix Environmental Association Says Stop the Waste

There is a meeting this evening at the St. Croix Environmental Association office this evening to work on stopping the nuclear waste. There are guests in from Japan who will talk about their efforts to stop the shipment of nuclear waste. That’s at 6:00 PM – at the St. Croix Environmental Association office on St. Croix

Good News from United Way. The United Way Campaign has raised $363,831 – that’s 76% of the United Way Goal. CAHS Band Boosters have a meeting on Monday January 26th at the Music Suite at 5:30 PM

Virgin Islands Dept of Labor is holding a community forum to help explain the welfare to work initiative on Monday January 26th from 6:00 PM – to 8:00 PM – at the Virgin Islands Legislature Conference Room. Parents of Berthe C. Boschulte School PTA Fund raising committee are advised of a very important meeting at 6:00 PM – on January 26th at McDonald’s in Tutu All British Virgin Islanders resident in the he US Virgin Islands are invited to the nest general meeting of the League of British Virgin Islanders on January 26th at 7:00 PM – in the Legislature.

Water Island Report

Sandy Meyer is teaching a water color workshop on Water Island at 6 o’clock this evening. See, sometimes real stuff happens. Sandy’s watercolors are magnificent.
