Lights On! At Pedro Pey Ballpark…

The Governor ordered the repairs at the St. Croix ballpark and they are complete. The lights are on. The work at Estate Profit Community Center is complete. The governor met yesterday with investors from Black Hawk Gaming who are interested in developing a hotel casino waterfront complex on the Christiansted waterfront.

MSI Calypso of the Year Award

Louis Ibel Jr. is on a winning streak. At a ceremony yesterday at LeEscargo, Ible took his prize for the tune Hurry King Luis. That’s three years in a row, he has won MSI Calypso of the Year Award.

Unity Rally

The Unity Rally yesterday was like a great big party for the girls at Lionel Roberts Stadium. The Dept. of Education sponsored the event to urge unity and focus on the successes of the schools. The Girls had a braiding contest and prizes for the kids who had turned their lives around. Today it’s the boys at noon at Lionel Roberts Stadium.

Grant to Library

The Enid Baa Library has received a donation of $5,000 from Executive Office Equipment, for Xerox Corporation. Commissioner Dalmida-Smith thanked Xerox and commended the company on its generosity in helping to purchase books.

Admin Leave for Carnival

OK Here’s the holiday administrative leave calendar for non-essential government employees. The governor announced that the government would give administrative leave to non-essential employees on Thursday morning. But, everyone has to be at work by 1 PM. On Wednesday there is administrative leave for the Food Fair in the afternoon.

Kids Ride Free – Almost

Here’s good news for some kids. There are some special tickets available at the Winston Raymo center for elementary school age kids. Today between 11 AM and 2 PM. First come first served. The special tickets allow kids to ride for only 50 cents.

Immunizations

This month is infant immunization month and this is immunization week. If you have young children get their vaccinations up to date. Medicine has conquered measles, mumps, polio, rubella, hepatitis, Haemophilus Influenza type B, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. But you have to get your childs early immunizations.

Freenet Hits 150,000

There is a Freenet in St. Thomas that allows text access to the internet for free. Well it records the count of the number of users every time the system is used. Just the other day the 150,000 person used the Freenet system. The 150,000 person was Ravindra Alok Gupta of Columbia University, a student from here studying there who keeps in touch with the global internet.
