45 Houses on Magens Bay

There are plans in the works for 45 houses on the west side of Magens Bay according to the Daily News. The proposed development, called Le Domaine, is being planned for 27 acres of the hillside above the bay. Coastal Zone permits have not been issued and the houses are planned for middle income, local owners.

Jeeps for the Dogs

There are five new jeeps on duty for the police and they are just right for dogs. The old police dog cars had gone to the dogs. Now new jeeps are here, and the dogs are getting back to work, tracking and apprehending criminals. The money for the dog jeeps came from a federal grant.

Agriculture Grant

The Agricultural Experiment Station of the university got a grant of $143,500 to improve production of culinary herbs in the Virgin Islands by small holder farmers. The grant will help develop and evaluate organic mulches, composts, green manure’s, intercropping and drip irrigation. The idea is to support sustained crop production.

Residents of Estate Anna’s Retreat are reminded that today is the last day of mail delivery at the Community Management Office.

The latest edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges lists 15 students at UVI among the best of the best. Our stars – Hilma Benjamin, Evol Byron, Margaret Browne, Tamara Charles, Morven Daniel, Christine Hector, Lanny Hobson, Jacqueline Jeffery, Glenda Lambert, Alice Livingstone, Gregory Mills, Verchella Sadio, Clinton Ward, Cherrie-Ann Walters and Shawna Williams.

RCCL – Hospitality Suite

The Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines opened their first hospitality lounge in St. Thomas one year ago this weekend. It was the first time a cruise ship company built a shore side facility. It is significant that it is tied in time to transfer day. The cruise lounge is located on Hibiscus Alley off Main Street.

 Public Health Week

This coming week is Public Health Week and Dr. Poblete reminds you that our water is clean, our homes are free of toxins, mothers deliver healthy babies and diseases are largely under control. That’s public health at work.

Tuitt school is hosting a Social Studies Fair this morning at Emancipation Garden at 9AM with student skits, games and activities ( The MegaYouth Festival is coming -To volunteer to help with the preparations for the Mega Youth Festival. Call 776-5566. ( The veterans counselor, Robert Ashby is at Estate Richmond today until 3:30 ( Saturday is United Way cultural fair and bazaar at Emancipation Garden from 10 AM ( Nobel laureate Elie Weisel is coming to Reichhold Center this Sunday at 7 PM Proceeds from the program go to United Way. ( Sunday is Transfer Day and the Governor invites you to a ceremony marking the 79th anniversary of the transfer of the Virgin Islands from Denmark to the USA. That’s on the grounds of the Legislature at 3 PM. ( Schools are closed Monday for Transfer Day Holiday, VITELCO office are also closed as are banks and government offices.
