The St. Thomas won the Golden Globe Award for the second year in a row. The Award is given by Dream World Cruise Destinations. It is annually and the cruise lines vote for the winners.. St. Thomas was voted World’s Best Destination and we won the prize for Best Destination in the Caribbean. We’re Number One Again. Second year in a row.

Friends of the Park Get a Gift

The friends of the Virgin Islands National Park are upbeat today, they have a new gift. This one is $250,000 and it is earmarked to preserve the human artifacts that are being washed away from the Cinnamon Bay beach. Meanwhile that barge that ran aground off Caneel Bay is going away. A salvage company from Florida is on site and removing the barge and the cargo of cement that went over the side.

Attorney General Julio Brady says “We ARE in Tobacco Suit”

Attorney General Julio Brady says the Virgin Islands is participating in the National Tobacco suit. He says that his office has been involved from the outset and that Senator Petrus claim that we need to get involved is incorrect. Brady writes “Contrary to your representations in public, I have taken all the necessary steps for the Virgin Islands to be included in the national settlement.

CIGNA Must Stay Through April

Lieutenant Governor Mapp rejected CIGNA’S offer to take lower premiums for a shorter time that they are required to manage medical insurance for the government workers. The company says they aren’t required to provide coverage beyond the end of this month and no new health insurance is in place. Mapp says CIGNA is here until the end of April.

Road Work Coming

Tyrone Martin is here talking about the new road projects in St. Thomas. The Governor has given his final blessing on a major Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resurfacing project for some of the worst roads. The first spot for the work is at Donoe and there are 8 other sites where they will be doing work. This will be fast paced and drivers are asked to pay attention to road closings and temporary delays.

Raffle Land for Emancipation Commemoration

The Emancipation Commemoration Commission is considering a proposal to raffle a one acre property in Estate Labour to raise funds for the festivities. The land developer says he will offer the plot as a raffle prize and split revenues 50/50 with the Commission. Lawrence Bastian says he is thinking about it.

Governor Schneider Approves Funds for Schools

Joseph Gomez Elementary School will get a new Little League ball field after Governor Schneider signed a number of contracts. Good Life After School program in Tutu will get 29,000 to operate an after school program. The Governor also approved grants to repair two buildings – one at #1A Gassee Gade and the other at #8 Gutter Gade in Savan.

Montserrat Association Elects Officers

The Montserrat Association met over the weekend and elected officers, Mr. Victor Sidney was elected President, Richard Blake is VP, Simra James will be recording secretary and Alice Tuitt is treasurer.

Women’s Infants and Children’s Clinic to Move

Starting on Monday the clinic that’s is usually in Foster Plaza, the women’s Infant’s and Children’s Clinic will be in Tutu Park Mall across from the East End Family Health Center.

Ghost Riders get Good News

St. John Ghost Riders to Get Tuned Up. Senator Roosevelt David and Tropical Shipping are teaming up to help the St. John Ghost Riders Youth Steel Orchestra. The band needs its pans tuned and Senator David and Tropical Shipping are putting together the money to tune 72 steel pans for the orchestra.
