Hospital Roof Done on Deadline
Administrators at St. Thomas’ Roy L. Schneider Hospital say they made it! The new roof is on in time for the February 27 deadline. A surprise inspection is expected any day and work has been going non stop to make ready for that important event. On Thursday government officials went straight to the top to inspect the work. They gave thumbs up on the work and and extra thumbs up to Roy’s Construction for stepping in at the last minute to finish up when the original contractor walked off the job.

Computer Donation
Chamber of Commerce has a new project to beautify downtown and VITELCO employee’s club and Peter’s Electric recently made a generous donation of a new computer with printer and wiring to the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Donors said once the new wiring is complete, students should be able to use the new equipment in a few days. The gift computer is reportedly equipped with Internet capability and will allow student access to the latest in cyperspace technology.
Park Survey
A federal policy of charging admission to national parklands may soon take effect on the island of St. John. This according to V.I. Park Superintendent Russel Berry. Berry said fees collected from park admissions will help maintain the facilities used by visitors and allow him to increase funding for the park’s maintenance division about 600-thousand visitors toured the St. John national park every year.

Call it Christmas or is it the start of the winter tourist season? The V.I. Department of Labor says the job picture improved in the month of December … with 640 new hires reported over the previous month … Labor Department statistician Dave Barber said expect the job picture to look even better as reports roll in for new hires made during the winter months.
School Inspections
Officials of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools praised administrators at Charlotte Amalie High School and the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School for doing so much with very few resources. Association members inspected those two schools this week, but they added that by the time the final inspection is done in April. Many improvements will be needed for those public high schools to keep their standing accreditation allows students graduating Eudora Kean and CAHS to get first consideration when applying for higher education.

Jester’s Troupe meets 5:30 tonight American Legion Hall; Gypsy troup meets at the Petit Pump Room also at 5:30; Power Squadron meets 6:30 at Pilot House, Crown Bay. Monsignor Askew of the Holy Family Church in Tutu reminds everyone that the 12 Steps of the Cross will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday. March is Red Cross Month and on the eve of that occasion the St. Croix Chapter invites you to join a Dinner and Dance on February 27th from 7pm at St George Village Botanical Garden on St. Croix 778-5104 Junior firefighters host a fish fry at the Fort Christian Fire station today at 5:30 pm, so don’t cook tonight.
