The Charlotte Amalie High School Chicken Hawks Are Winners! BIG WINNERS!

The Charlotte Amalie High School Chicken Hawks are Winners. Lillian Garfield called from London says the Marching Band, the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Steel Band won 11 trophies at the London Heritage Festival. Seven Gold Medals, one Silver and two Bronze. They Took the medal for Outstanding International Participation too. Wow – 11 Trophies.

CAHS Track is Complete

The Governor paid a visit to the CAHS track yesterday to inspect it. The rubberized plexitrack latex material is ultra-violet proof and long lasting so the track will serve for years. Hansen Says Contractor will Fix Altona Lagoon No Charge

The Altona Lagoon is a mess, clogged with sand and the water way has collapsed. Senator Hansen has been looking for a contractor to fix the problem within the budget of zero. Well there are three who do the job and one will do it for free. And Zenon Construction will put all the sand on local beaches. And they’ll do it for no charge to the Government. Assistive Technology Makes Life Easier for Disabled

There is a conference going on right now at UVI for members of the Senate and executive branch to learn about new assistive technologies. It is a lot more than wheelchairs, there are hundreds of simple tools that make the lives of people with disabilities easier. People with only slight disabilities can be helped with simple things, like a gadget to hold playing cards to an aid to help people find the right lines when writing a check. Grants Available

The Virgin Islands Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission is going to make grants available to neighborhood groups to clean up, and teach about litter. There are 15 grants up to $5,000 each and must come from neighborhood groups. The deadline is April 30th. 777-3073

Scarlet Fever Cases Reported

There have been 5 cases of Scarlet fever in the Virgin Islands While it is a contagious disease, it is easy to spot. Fever, sore throat, swollen lymph glands and a strawberry tongue. There is excellent anti-biotic treatment for Scarlet Fever. If you know anyone with the symptoms contact the hospital or a medical doctor and get the treatment.

VITEMA is hosting Earthquake Conference

VITEMA is holding a workshop next week on Earthquake preparedness on St. Thomas Monday at VITEMA offices, Tuesday on St. John at the Court Meeting Room and on Thursday on St. Croix at VITEMA Offices.
