The Budget Summit Resumes Today

The budget summit resumes today at 10 AM. This is not the 100 people who came to the first Summit, but the whole Senate will be there, the Governor, and Heads of Budget and Finance. The Port Authority, WAPA and UVI will also have the top officials at the summit. The agenda includes the possible sale of WAPA, delinquent property taxes, and taxing the Port Authority.

Economist is Upbeat on the Economy

Dan Inveen is the Director of Economic research and when he spoke at the Summit he said the economy is improving. Inveen points to increases in jobs, the recovery and the leading role of construction and tourism. Private sector employment is up 5.2 percent. Inveen said he is retiring at the end of this month. And Senator David is asking the Governor to immediately fill the position as soon as it becomes vacant. David says the position is important and we can’t afford a lengthy vacancy.

American Eagle Updates the Whole Fleet

The regional carrier of American Airlines announced that they have completed a replacement of their fleet of airplanes in the region. All flights out of San Juan will now fly on ATR planes. The new planes hold 64 passengers and feature the amenities found on larger planes. Fold down trays, bathrooms. The increase in room comes at the expense of the number of flights a day between St. Thomas and St. Croix. American will reduce the interisland schedule from six to four flights a day.

Image Band in Florida

The Image Band was in Tallahasee Florida for Carnival. One band member said it was gratifying how many Virgin Islanders came to Florida for the festival. The Image Band is on tour and will be in St. Croix for Crusian Christmas festival.

Lovango Cay Development

Are you concerned with the possible development of Lovango Cay? Environmental Association of St. Thomas-St. John Is holding a meeting this evening at the Local Culinary Restaurant to talk about the CZM Permit for this development. 776-1976

NetDay Coming Up

Department of Education will host a NetDay video conference on Saturday at 1:00 PM – at the Video Conference Room. The meeting will help our educators prepare for connecting our schools to the information superhighway.

Jr. Lions took the PeeWee League

This is a hearty congratulations to the St Thomas Junior Lions Pee Wee League. The Jr. Lions took the final game with a score of 20 to 6 against the Eagles. Vincent Thompson went 4 for 4. Jamal Letsome was two for three and Anselmo Farrington who was two for three and did that all season long.

Calendar Time

Emanuel Benjamin Oliver School is going to offer their annual calendar of birthdays. Now about 1000 people got into last years calendar and there is room for more. These calendars always sell out. You can get your birthday into the official Emanuel Benjamin Oliver Calendar starting tomorrow at 775-2000. The deadline is October 3rd. Band Booster Leader Clayton Emanuel is taking orders for the calendar too.

Trees for St. Croix

There will be more trees on St. Croix after the Community United Methodist Center finishes its upcoming workshop on Trees in the Urban Environment.
