Labor Day Messages for Working People

Central Labor Council President Morales has a message for all working people this labor day. He asks whether you are better off this year than you were one year ago. Glenn Smith of the Teacher’s Union says it is time to pay homage to the heroes and heroines who toil in the grapevines and pull the weeds. He honors General Bordeaux, Queen Mary and Queen Agnes, Rothschild Frances, D. Hamilton Jackson as heroes of the day. Delegate Christian-Green also lauds heroes of labor and adds Earle Ottley and Ludwig Harrigan to the list of heroes of labor. Senate President Lorraine Berry says all labor and management must work closely to find common ground and achieve realistic goals. Carmelo Riviera, Commissioner of Labor said in his Labor day statement that bad news generates more bad news and pessimism breeds pessimism.

Governor Schneider is at Randall “Doc” James Race track Today

Governor Schneider will participate in a ceremony today at St. Croix racetrack to unveil a monument to Randall Doc James. The monument is commemorate his life and give the track its formal name. The horses will be running in a new Doc James/ Lottery special race. There is also the Holstein Cup and the Prime Time Cup running today.

Banco Popular Broke Ground for the New Headquarters.

It was hard to miss the trucks and earth movers breaking ground for the new Banco Popular Center all last week. The trees are gone and the ground is clear for construction. On Saturday the Governor and bank officials held the formal ground breaking ceremony to inaugurate the construction of the massive new building across from Addelita Cancryn Junior High School

New Book of Helpful Information from Department of Tourism

Virgin Islands Association of the Nations Capital Sends Help

The Virgin Islands Association is going to replace the roof at the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Croix in Frederiksted. They are also replacing two lost wheel chairs and a TV/Video Conference Room for the Fireburn Hill After School Center. The Association is based in Washington DC and includes Virgin Islanders living in the Washington region. They have collected the funds to make some good news right here.
