Modular School Opening Dates

We have the schedule for the opening of Boschulte, Peace Corp and Lockhart schools the Educational Administrators Association is asking that we plan the make-up days and not resort to double sessions. Lockhart Elementary and St. Croix Central High School will both open on Sept 16. Berthe Boschulte and Peace Corp schools will be ready on Sept 23.

Water Meter Matter

Last night in St. John the water haulers were reminded to put the meters on before October and they were also reminded that the meters range in cost from 3 to 5 thousand dollars. The water haulers don’t want to buy the meters. The Department of Licensing & Consumer Affairs says other businesses meter their services and water haulers should too. They may give the water haulers a little more time, and they are allowing the use of a less expensive meter.

Send Teachers!

The schools are looking for teachers. St. Thomas needs secondary school science teachers, french language instructors, school nurses and librarians. In St. Croix they need physical education teachers, math, science, special ed, foreign language and nurses. St. Thomas 774-0100 ( St. Croix 773-5844

We are ALL Stakeholders…

The incoming Director of Tourism, Wylie Whisonant met with Governor Schneider yesterday to plan a strategy for the promoting the coming tourism season. Whisonant says we are all stakeholders in the tourism business. We all have a stake in making these islands a great destination.

Road Repair

The Department of Public Works is going to start work in St. Croix on the Queen Mary Highway, the turn lanes to Sion Farm Road, and Whim Road will get resurfacing. The Airport road in St. Thomas is getting resurfaced beginning on Monday there will be one lane in the the morning while they strip the surface and restore it. Do you hate the speed bumps? Now is the time to voice your opinion.

Fish Kill?

Who is killing fish in Half Penny Bay and Sugar Bay St. Croix. People are using Chlorox to catch lobsters and the chemicals are killing fish too. If you see anyone engaged in an environmental crime, call 776-8600 on St. Thomas 773-5774 on St. Croix.

Today we have mostly sunny with 20 percent chance of rain, High 90-95 wind out of the NE at 10-15. Tropical Depression #8 last reported at 14.5 North 55.4 West moving to the west. We’ll keep you posted.

  • There is an invasion of puppets going on this weekend as Barbara Capers brings her puppets to several sites. Saturday at 3 PM they are invading Tutu Park Mall. 
  • Sunday morning the puppets are preaching at the 8:30 service in the Lutheran Church of the reformation in Tutu

A caller says there are a lot of big ugly trucks on Mariendahl Hill that take away from the natural beauty of the hill. Can’t we park those Mack trucks somewhere else.
