Bertha C. Boschulte School is back with discipline and academics

What happens when you hold a meeting and everyone comes. At Bertha C. Boschulte School PTA on Sunday the energy was in the air and the excitement palpable. Discipline and Academics will be the cornerstones of the new Bertha C. Boschulte School. And get up earlier, school starts at 7:30 now.

Holiday

Today is a holiday, Call it Columbus Day or Virgin Islands Puerto Rico Friendship Day, your choice. Government offices are closed, banks, and businesses too. Food stores and convenience stores are generally open.

Holmberg to Quarter Finals

Peter Holmberg got to the quarter finals of the Brut Cup in Bermuda, but lost to a defending champion with superior knowledge of the chosen sailboats. It was good practice for this evolving America’s Cup team. Holmberg will be swimming in the the St. Thomas Swimming Association Swim-A-Thon Oct 19th

Environment Grant

The Alcoa Foundation made a grant to the St. Croix Environmental Association to create an educational program for kids ages 10-12 called My Environment that teaches the kids about Reduce-reuse and recycle and about endangered species, the web of life and the importance of trees.

VITELCO Progress

VITELCO says they are making progress with the phone repairs in St. Croix. There was an accidental cable cut and some vandalism. Phones should be back by Wednesday.

Senate Postpones Lease Meeting

Senate is on holiday today. The Finance Committee is falling further behind on reviewing the Port Authority leases.The Committee has not addressed these leases in the last two sessions; once lacking a quorum, the next time doing everything but the leases. The meeting on the leases scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed lacking a quorum.

  • This evening is Midnight Madness at the University of the Virgin Islands Fieldhouse from 10:30 to 12:30 with fun food and entertainment.
  • The Division of Labor is sponsoring a class in Computerized Accounting beginning Oct 21 for people who hold a High School diploma and are unemployed. Call 776-3700 Friday is the deadline to apply.
  • When we get to the next carnival, it will be the 45th anniversary. Eunice Duggins wants all previous Carnival Queens to contact her at 776-4985
