Chase Foundation Made 20 grants

The Chase Foundation made a set of grants to community organizations at a ceremony yesterday in St. Thomas. The grants ranging from$500 to $1000 were made to St. John organizations like The Methodist Pre-school, Many Paths, Dry Closet Project Green-up. On St. Thomas some of the recipients were Downstreet People, The Humane Society, Virgin Islands Resources center for the Disabled, Dober band boosters and the Women’s Resourrce Center.

AT&T Will Clean Up Drilling Site

AT&T says they will clean up the site where they are installing fibre optic cables on St. Croix. There was a spill of the drilling mud, and AT&T says they are committed to a complete clean up of the site.

St. Croix House is a “Cover Girl”

The cover of the upcoming international edition of Architectural Digest magazine will carry a photo of the home of Twila Wilson and Erik Johnson. Wilson is the Java Wraps entrepreneur and the designer of our Olympic Team outfits. Now her house is a cover girl of architectural beauty.

Dogs:1 Crooks:0

I love it when the dogs catch the crooks. A burgler stole a purse and made off on a bicycle on St. John. But the K-9 dog “Thor” and his handlers Officers Brown, Joseph and Sprauve took off after the crook. The dog forced him to drop the purse and abandon his bicycle.

Education Week

The coming week is Education Week in the Virgin Islands. From November 17th to the 23rd there will be special activities in our schools. Here’s another example. 1) The Bankers association has an essay contest about banking with prizes and plaques to the winners. The bankers will also host a Student Day during Education Week. 2) There’s a aprade on Sunday from the Dept of Education to Emancipation Garden with the school kids in uniform. 3) All week long there is student work on display in Tutu Park Mall. The theme of Education week this year is Good Schools are a Great Investment.

Castign Call

Here’s your chance to be in the movies. There is a casting call for people to appear in the new Virgin Islands television commercials on Saturday Nov 16th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Blue Marlin Room of Sapphire Beach resort and Marina. On St. Croix the casting call is Sunday the 17th from 12 noon to 4:00 PM. They are looking for local character actors, boys and girls ages 5 to 8, women over 60 and bikini beauties, tourist types and extras. 775-6100

  • CAHS has an open house today from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for distribution of first marking period report cards.
  • Lockhart Elementary PTA is meeting at 5:30 PM at the school cafeteria. Mario Frances urges all to attend.
  • Electricians and electrical contractors are meeting at 7 PM in the Legislative Conference room St. Thomas.
  • The Emancipation Garden Christmas Card organization will meet at 6:00 PM at the Legislative Conference room in St. Thomas to plan the 20th annual Challenge of Carols. Call 774-4518

Food Fair Coming

The food fair is coming up. This weekend, the 16th and 17th the Food Fair is happening on the grounds of the Reichhold Center. There will be locally grown fresh herbs and vegetables. There’s face painting and clowns. The a raffle includes a calf, some round trip tickets to St. Croix, a weed eater, two parakeetes and lots more. The music is by Imaginations Brass and Lashing Dogs. There’s fish net making, straw weaving and a cow milking demonstration. Fun for all at the Food Fair, coming up on Saturday and Sunday.
