Today is Timothy Duncan Day in the Virgin Islands

Acting Governor Mapp has declared today to be Tim Duncan Day in the Virgin Islands. Duncan is being honored for his scholastic achievements, for his outstanding performance as an All American Center on the Wake Forest Basketball team and for choosing to complete his college degree rather than take the quick path to professional basketball career. Duncan will be honored today at the St. Croix Education Complex where the gymnasium is a being named the Timothy Theodore Duncan Gym. Duncan will also be presented with the Virgin Islands Medal of Honor in a ceremony at 2:30 PM – at the Legislative Conference Room St. Croix.

Insurance Seminar for St. Croix

Lieutenant Governor Mapp reminds you that on Thursday there is a n insurance seminar on St. Croix for homeowners. The hurricane season is almost here and it is smart to insure now before the storms of summer. The seminar is at 6:00 PM – on Thursday at the Curriculum Center. And there are refreshments too.

Senate Committee on Finance Today

The Senate Finance Committee is meeting at the Legislative Conference Room St. Croix for a session that is all a series of small requisitions. There are eight items on the agenda involving requisitions from Human Services, Department of Planning and Natural Resources, and there is a lease to review for LaBon Auto Body and Sales, and a franchise agreement for Transportation Services of St. John and Banco Popular.

UVI Graduates 332

UVI Held its graduation over the weekend granting 332 diplomas.. Now we are in graduation season. And the rest of the school graduations are coming up in the next three weeks. Sts Peter and Paul is June 5th All Saints graduation is June 6th, Kean School graduation is June 7th, CHAS holds its graduation on June 8th, Antilles gives its diplomas on June 13th 7th Day Adventist holds graduation on June 15th. It is the season and the proms and graduation ceremonies are upon us.

On The Calendar

Coming Up Saturday – Rotary Club of Charlotte Amalie Scholarship fund raiser is Saturday Night at the Limetree Beach Hotel. Tony Graham is singing, Dinner dance is by the Starlights and a “surprise” new Artist. Call 776-3287 Ask for Vinnie.

Housing Authority Youth Steel Orchestra is on recess from today through June 4th. Rehearsal will resume on June 5th at the usual time.

There is a Honors Awards ceremony tonight at Ivanna Eudora Kean School at 7:15 PM.

It is Mental Health Awareness Month and today there is a community Outreach at Plaza Shopping Center.

Elementary Basketball Tournament

The Elementary Basketball Tournament is coming up and there is only one problem. Audrey Callwood says the kids are all pumped up to play basketball – they all want to be Tim Duncan, but there is one problem. . No T-shirts. Now, what we need is a company to come forward and underwrite the cost of 800 T-shirts for the elementary school Basketball tournament. It is a chance to be a part of a very exciting end of the season and a chance to inspire the kids to reach for the stars like Tim Duncan. Call Audrey Callwood at 774-8784 x 2219.
