Shall we Self Insure in Health?

The Governor met with the Government Health Insurance Board to plan to convert the current insurance policy into self-insurance which would be administered by an outside company. They are developing a proposal for the legislature to approve or reject.

Modular Classroom Update

Education Commissioner Cheek took the staff of Property and Procurement to task yesterday, as he illuminated the mismanagement that had occured with the purchase of modular schools. Ramtech has been awarded the contract to build the modular classrooms which are scheduled to be ready by August for school to start.

Brenda Muhammad to speak at Youth Symposium

Senator Lorraine Berry reminds you that Saturday’s Youth Symposium is happening at Frenchman’s Reef this weekend. The Black History Month Essay contest winners will read their essays and receive awards, One guest speaker is Brenda Muhammad the founder of Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters. She’s a trailblazer of implementing violence prevention programs. If you need transportation to the event goto Emancipation Garden, Weatley Plaza or Four Winds Plaza at 7:30 in the morning to catch the ride.

Congressman Victor Frazer working on Caneel Bay Lease

Congressman Victor Frazer is trying to get the National Park Service to extend the lease for the land under Caneel Bay resort. Parks Director Kennedy said in a letter that the service has a primary obligaiton to the parks and not to the local economy.

Red Cross Gala

Red Cross is hosting its gala event of the year at Frenchman’s Reef on March 30 with Deep Under Cover and a free champaign reception with a 20 course sea food buffet too. Tickets are hot and going fast. Tables can be hosted by companies.

At the E. Bernjamin Oliver school the spelling bee is over and the winners are in. 3rd grader Cody Richardson came in first, Sekoia Rogers is second and Edgar Francis came in third. Cody is headed to the District Spelling Bee on april 3rd. Go for the gold Cody.
