Tim Duncan is TOP Choice

The Top Choice in the National Basketball Association Draft is St. Croix Native Tim Duncan. The San Antonio Spurs were the team with the first choice and they choose our own Tim Duncan. Duncan joins a team that made it to the semi-finals in the recent past and has the squad members to go to the top.

Freshwater Yankees – Scholarship Winners

Virgin Islands Freshwater Yankees announce the recipients of the 1997 scholarships for Virgin Islands seniors going to college. The recipients this year are Lattichia Trotman of Catholic High School, Gail Jackson of Ivanna Eudora Kean School, Vexillie Williams of CAHS, Damika Edwards of St. Croix Central and Jackie Hughes of the St. Croix Education Complex

Governor says we’re moving into 21st Cent.

The Governor announced that his special assistant for information and technology Dean Wallace is moving the Government into the 21st century with a site on the Internet. There will be information on all branches of the government, each department of the administration, e-mail and other facilities to keep people all over the world current on what’s happening in the Virgin Islands Government. The new facilities should be up and running by the end of August. The governor is holding a press conference this morning to discuss preparations for hurricanes and earthquakes.

Top Students at Berthe C. Boschulte School

Berthe C. Boschulte School Held graduation on Tuesday for students leaving the junior high school 281 students were promoted. The top ten were Kae’che S. Liburd, Tashema Clarke, Sophia Greenaway, Linnai-Anne Camacho, Abigale Cyntje, Tamika Amey, Chantele Casimir, Kehmisha K. Reid, Sasha Eloi and Lee C. Jn-Baptiste

Windsurfing Championships Come to US Virgin Islands

Coming Up: In July, the American Airline National Windsurfing Championships will be held in the Virgin Islands at Doubletree Sapphire Beach Resort. From July 14 to the 19th. This is the most prestigious Windsurfing event of the year and the first time it has ever been held in the US Virgin Islands. Olympic Windsurfing champions will be here for the race and we have local Windsurfers who are contenders for the top prizes.

Draft Education Report Complete

The Governor’s Education committee met with Governor Schneider about their progress. Mark Marin said their mission was to hear all of the public concerns with education. Many suggestions have already been implemented by the Education dept. others are part of legislation introduced by Senator Vargrave Richards.

We’re In the Movies

There’s a movie opening on July 2nd, called Out to Sea all about a cruise ship. The film was shot on the MS Westerdam and a lot of the movie was shot on our own West Indian Dock. So when you hear about Out to Sea, you know that ticket buyers are seeing the beautiful US Virgin Islands and reminding everyone what a wonderful destination we have. Partners for Health kicked off the annual Governor’s Cup Billfish Tournament this morning. The hospital is getting some new technology from Partners for Health that will determine the status of a patient in cardio-vascular shock. Its a gift that could save your life. 06/25/97 10:33 AM
