Delegate Green Got Good Assignments in Congress

Delegate Green received her first round of assignments to the 105th Congress. She is on the House Committee on resources. She voted the Democratic caucus and got her first choice, she is on the Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands. She also selected the Energy and Mineral resources subcommittee as her second choice. She will get another committee assignment before the end of the week.

Dept. of Public Works is sprucing up.

First Contant, next Savan. Dept. of Public Works is working on junk cars, potholes, brush cutting, cleaning gutters and streets. Freshman Senator Smokey Frett was on the scene to monitor the clean up in his home neighborhood of Savan. If you have a sore spot, or an abandoned car, report it to Tyrone Martin or Louis Hughes at 776-4844 X 104. Education Commission Hearings

The Education Commission is continuing their hearings. This time it was the teachers who had their say. They want a consistent plan of action for the schools that lives beyond changes in the administration. Every classroom needs more supplies, more books, better maintenance of the buildings. The Commission on Education public hearings continue with a meeting just for students until 11:00 AM at CAHS Auditorium..

New Racing Commission Board

The St. Croix Racing Commission has a slate of nominees from Governor Schneider. He sent the list down to the legislature before leaving for Washington. Jean Romney Robert McIntosh and Elroy Harrison are being reappointed. New appointees include Dr deChambert, Clarance Heylinger, Trevor James and Dr Olaf Hendricks

O’Neill to Banking Board

Acting Governor Mapp sent the nomination of Pablo O’Neill to the senate for confirmation to continue holding his seat on the Virgin Islands Banking Board. O”Neill is a Certified Public Accountant, He’s was on the board until his term expired in September. O’Neill has continued to serve and his confirmation is expected.

Future Homemakers of America FHA?HERO Week

Future Homemakers of America are celebrating FHA. Hero week with their Queen of Queens Show at the Red and Blue Ball coming up this Saturday at Blue Beards Beach Club from 7:00 PM to midnight. FHA Hero week includes a church service, a beach picnic and the National FHA Hero Program.

Fire Service: Arson Research Class

The Fire Service is going to offer a seminar on basic arson investigation. To teach more than 50 fire fighters the basics of doing arson research, causes, incendiary devices, the capabilities of the laboratories and how to write the arson reports. The class will be offered on February 10 and 11 at Frenchman’s Reef and on February 13 and 14 at Golden Rock Federal Building.
