We waited forever for this report, well, 5 months. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) finally released their Hurricane Marilyn report. It says what we had been hearing all along. Marilyn was a category two storm with sustained winds of 104 MPH and gusts to 200. There were no tornadoes – Hummm Someone tell that to my roof.
Doppler Radar
NOAA has also installed new Doppler radar in Puerto Rico, and an Automatic Surface Observation System that will help improve weather reporting in time for the next hurricane season.

The Reichhold Center has announced that the master of ceremonies for the Virgin Islands Music Awards will be Oliver Samuels – The Caribbean’s Funniest Man.
HUD Grants
The Governor is inviting individuals and organizations to submit proposals for Housing and Urban Development community development block grants. Your project should help low & medium income people and meet one of HUD’s objectives. The deadline is February 29. Write up your idea and take it to the Department of Planning and Natural Resources. This may mean money for your new projects in your neighborhood, so take a few minutes to write your ideas down.

The Health Department’s Rural Outreach Van is in town today at Emancipation Garden from 9 AM to 2 PM. They’re doing blood pressure testing, diabetes screening, Cholesterol, TB and HIV testing. On Tuesday they’ll be at K-Mart.
Woolworth’s Open
Finally this: Woolworth’s is open. After months of waiting, we can finally go to Woolworth’s again. The new Woolworth’s is smaller and it is in the location where Foot Locker used to be in the Lockhart Garden Mall but it has the kinds of things you only get at Woolworth.
