The Senate Passed the Drop Out Prevention Act

The Senate passed the Drop Out Prevention Act which requires schools to identify students in danger of dropping out and prescribes a special curriculum for them. They passed the Parent Participation Act to allow parents two hours off a month for school conferences. They acted to allow teachers to apply their unused sick leave to their retirement. They passed the bill to seek to amend the Organic Act to allow a two year budget cycle for the government rather than an annual budget. All the bills are on the way to the Governor

Deadline Approaching

Virgin Islands FEMA officials are reminding everyone that the Sept. 9th deadline is approaching to apply for aid. You need to get your applications back as soon as possible., You can still apply 800-462-9029.

Bring Southern Command to St. Croix

J. Este-McDonald has written a public letter to Congressman Victor Frazier asking him to see if St. Croix can become the home of the US Armed Forces Southern Command. St. Croix is offered as an ideal place to site the Southern command which is moving out of Panama.

Department of Agriculture Grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has given the Virgin Islands a loan to replace the Force Main that carries sewage to the treatment Plant. The loan is worth 1.8 million and there is also a grant of $410,000 too.

Human Services Staff the Best

Some of our Human Services employees have been cited with credentials that recognize the excellence of their work. Sheridan DeGrasse, Maybelline Brookes, Yvonne Marie Parris and Eden Headley received the Child Development Associate Credential.

Good News Weather:

Cloudy today and chance of rain. Tropical Storm Francis is located at 15.8 N 51.5 W 620 miles east of here. We’re watching it. Hurricane Edouard is still dangerous. Stay out of the north shore waters today.

On the sore spot report:

Winston to say there’s a sore spot between Crown Bay Marina and Texas Barbeque where a Brown Honda is being turned into a public parts car. Can’t we haul that one away?
