Governor Meets with “Posse” of Federal Officials

Governor Schneider held a meeting yesterday in which a number of our local officials met with their counterparts from the federal government. The idea was to talk about areas of mutual concern and get direct links between the local and federal officials. Representatives from environmental protection, health, labor, SBA, Housing FEMA and GSA were all on hand. And got to meet and discuss how to keep channels open. Delegate Christian-Green expressed her satisfaction that these meetings took place to iron out issues between the local and federal government.

Police Move to Estate Grove Place St. Croix

In response to a rash of minor crimes, the police announced that they are moving a unit to Estate Grove Place fire station.

Governor Proposes Smaller Parking Lot

Also on St. Croix Governor Schneider has proposed that the Department of Interior give the parking lot in Christiansted to the territorial government and he is asking DPNR to draw up plans for a revised parking in Christiansted. The Governor’s plan is a compromise that preserves some parking while making a new grassy area and adding new park benches and brick pathways.

Public Services Commission Lacks Quorum

The Public Services Commission was supposed to meet yesterday to discuss a phone rate reduction, but they lacked a quorum and the meeting was canceled.

CAHS gets a Clean Up from The Coast Guard

The crew member of the US Coast Guard Cutter Reliance will be at CAHS this weekend doing a clean up around the school campus. The crew volunteered to do the work in anticipation of First Lady Barbara Schneider’s Easter Egg hunt on April 11.

Spelling Bee Winners

The primary spelling bee was yesterday at Bluebeard’s Castle and there were dozens of participants from all over the territory. Senator Gomez says she was particularly pleased that so many young males came out to participate. Top place when to Lionel Selwood Jr. of Edith Williams School Meanwhile the geography bee took place on St. Croix and David Knight of Pine Peace school St. John came in third, Urdley Smith of Ulla Muller School was second and the top geography student in the territory is Kieran Locke of Good Hope School St. Croix
