Transfer Day Holiday

Today is Transfer Day in the US Virgin Islands. It is a local holiday. Our local government offices are closed. Federal government offices and most banks are open. VITELCO offices are closed, The transfer ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 PM and if you can’t be there, WTJX and WSTA will broadcast the Transfer Day ceremony live at 3:00 PM on Channel 12. This year students will reenact the transfer ceremony with students from Addelita Cancaryn Junior High School and All Saints and The Governor’s Youth Commission performing the ceremony.

Danish Ambassador Endorses Middle Passage Monument Project.

The Danish Ambassador to the US, K.E. Tygesen has given his endorsement to the Middle Passage Monument project that being sponsored by the Homeward Bound Project. St. Croix Fashion designed Wayne James is leading the project which has been endorsed by Delegate Christian-Green, and Senators Liburd, Frett and Bryan. Over 200 artists have applied to submit designs for the monument which will be lowered in the Atlantic and copied at various locations in Africa and the New World.

Government Seeks Settlement with AT&T

Attorneys for the Territorial Government say that they are seeking a settlement with AT&T over the issues of the fiber optic cable in St. Croix. There are reports of as much as 300,000 gallons of drilling mud on the ocean floor of which 130,000 have been recovered. AT&T says the mud does not pose a significant threat to the environment and they want to sit down and settle the matter.

New Television Series Coming to St. Croix

There is a casting call on St. Croix this coming week for local extras in the pilot for a new television show called Walking on Sunshine. The show is a weekly television series and if the pilot is good the show will film all summer on St. Croix. This is being produced for Fox television. The first audition is Sunday April 5th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Christiansted Gazebo.

Rolex Regatta is Coming

There are less than two weeks to go to the Rolex Regatta at the St. Thomas Yacht Club People are coming from as far as Britain and Australia to compete in the Rolex regatta. And again this year it is a chance to showcase the perfect sailing conditions in the Virgin Islands.

Lee Carle Makes Good News

Here a story that will warm your heart. Lee Carle, our tough hard news man discovered that the mother cat that came to his house after the hurricane and had kittens and been attacked by a big tough cat and while mama was hurt beyond repair, Lee spent two days pulling boards off the roof until he found two little kittens hiding in the ceiling. He took them in, and gave them names, fed them with an eye dropper and he is looking for homes for two lovely little female black and white kittens. That’s our Lee Carle making good news.

The Queen contest is scheduled for April 18th at 8:00 PM at Lionel Roberts Stadium The Prince and Princess Competition contestants are also announced: Asia Hill and Orlando Amaro are sponsored by Diamond International. Chenee Brooks and Richie Welsh Jr. are sponsored by Schumann and Associates. Annalise Setorie and Dimitri Maduro are sponsored by Advance Office Supplies and Krizia Gonzalez and Michael Toussaint Jr. are sponsored by Boolchands. The bands in the Music are as follows: Fusion, Massachusetts!, Cool Session, Positive Image, Caribbean-4, Seventeen Plus, Imaginations and Jam Band.
