Berry Says NO to Governor’s Race

Senate President Lorraine Berry says she is not going to run against Governor Schneider for the governors job in this years election. She will run for an office in the Senate. The Democrats met over the weekend at Windward Passage brushed aside Attorney General Julio Brady’s opinion that three party leaders could not be ousted from their positions in the party and pointed to the conflict of interest clause in the by-laws. That makes Jimmy O’Brien State Chair, Aubrey Lee District Chair from St. Thomas and Clarice Blake as national committee woman.

St. John Water Standpipe Back

After a week of drawing water from St. Thomas by truck and barge the St. John water standpipe will be back in operation later today. Water haulers will be able to draw water despite the Public Works road work in front of the standpipe. WAPA says they will be refilling the storage tanks for two weeks in the evening hours.

Hats off to MARS

Did you know that local radio operators are the links to many of our service people stationed all over the world? The Military Affiliated Radio Program links the soldiers and sailors of the Virgin Islands with radio operators here who relay their messages to family, friends and the radio station too. Hats off to the MARS radio operators for helping our children keep in touch with home.

Prisco is Moving

After years of operating Prisco public relations from the east end, Prisco is moving into Nisky Center. Priscilla Lynn announced that she choose Nisky due to its central location, excellent parking and the value of the diverse tenants which provide a total business environment.

Little Miss Delta

There is a new little Miss Delta after this weekend’s Pageant at Reichhold Center. Among the contestants, Felicia Henry was second runner up, Shardnae Gumbs is first runner up and the New Little Miss Delta is Shatima Charleswell. The event was sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority of St. Thomas.

Place is going to the Dogs.

The Police are making an effort to collect stray dogs in the Kirwin Terrace area. If your dog is missing, it may be at the humane society in Nadir and all dogs that aren’t claimed by April 3rd will be put to sleep. According to Virgin Islands Code, dogs are not permitted in public housing.

VITELCO to Improve Customer Relations

The phone company is reorganizing to improve its customer relations. VITELCO announced that it has named Michaele Breton as VP of Marketing and Customer relations. She w ill be responsible fort the business office operations, installation, repair and operator services. This is the first time VITELCO has had a VP level position dedicated to customers. Breton is a 10 year veteran of VITELCO in corporate affairs and commercial management.

Subsidized Loans for Energy Efficiency

The Virgin Islands Energy Office is launching a new program with the Virgin Islands Community Bank to subsidize loans when the funds are used to buy energy efficient products. The energy office will pay 50% of the loan interest to implement renewable energy technologies. Call 772-2616 for more information.

New Jobs in Rocket Business

They always say this isn’t rocket science, but on St. Croix the rocket business may be coming and could mean a lot of new jobs. The Texas rocket manufacturer is examining several sites in the Caribbean for their 100 million dollar manufacturing plant. Stay tuned, this business could be going up.

Flicks Has a Casting Call

Flicks productions has a casting call for a commercial they’re shooting soon. They are looking for attractive males ages 14 to 18 who can act or learn to act. The casting call is Monday at 4:00 PM at Flicks productions in Doctors Park.

Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs to Issue Conditional Licenses

Starting April 1st the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs will institute a new policy for approving business licenses. Now they will offer conditional licenses to business owners with minor infractions so they can operate while correcting flaws.

Water Island Report

Two parties on Honeymoon beach this weekend. Congratulations to Terry for getting married. (who was that guy?)

A Big Greeting to the family who came back to Water Island after four years a sailing around the world. They started at Water Island and came back at the end of the journey.
