Senator Gomez has introduced legislation to issue 80 million dollars in bonds to rebuild the schools.
The senator noted that four schools have to be totally rebuilt. While it is a lot of money, it isn’t a lot for our children. Governor Schneider has been talking with the Navy in Roosevelt Rhodes and it looks like we are going to have some big ships visit St. Thomas. The Navy is pleased with our safety record and they think it’s time to send ships visiting again.

Don’t dump oil in our ocean.
The Coast Guard is fining the Native Son $5000 for dumping oil in the harbor. They are tightening up enforcement of the laws that prohibit dumping of oil in the ocean, especially in our harbor. In a related matter, WAPA has approved spending 1.5 million dollars to clean up oil spills in Estate Richmond in St. Croix and Krum Bay in St. Thomas.
The casino commission is getting going.
The commissioners have met and they are beginning the search for the Commission’s Executive Director. They are also looking for office space in Frederiksted.

The senator said that veterans have trouble getting their benefits, particularly when it comes to home ownership. The first meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday in the Senate building in Frederiksted.
