Our Beaches are going to be cleaner.

Virgin Islands beaches are due for a major face lift as the Territorial Government bought two Sand Dollar Compact Beach Cleaners. The new 37,000 dolllar machines will sift the sand and clean out broken glass, cigarette butts, seawood, driftwood, animal waste, trash and refuse. The machines are portable and will be taken to each beach on a regular schedule.

The Governor is one of the 25 most influential people in the retail travel industry.

He was named to the list of the most influential people by Tour and Travel News, for elevating our tourism office cabinet level status and for splitting the office into separate offices for St. Croix and St. Thomas. He was cited for his leadership after Hurricane Marilyn. Also on the list was Mayor Guilliani of NY, and Rick James of Princess Cruises.

Some St. Croix teachers are going to learn about how to redesign secondary education at the National School Conference Institute conference on restructuring secondary education.

Deputy Superintendant Winona Hendricks, Loraine Gibbs, John H. Woodson, Vaughn Hewitt, Elena Christian and Carolyn Browne are now in Scottsdale Arizona learning new ideas in secondary education.

WAPA is closing the free water standpipes in Savan on Friday Feb 9th.

That means there are two weeks until Savan residents will have to set up alternative sources of water.WAPA says call 774-3552 to set up a metered account.

The Monserrat Association elected new officers and made removal the definition of a native Virgin Islander from the casino law as their top priority.

The new officers are President Kenneth Allen, VP Debra Braithwaite, Secretary Vivian Gillard, Monica Ryan is the new recording secretary and Eddie Donoghue is the Public Relations Officer.

Peggy Wilcox reminds St. Thomas St. John Chamber of Commerce members that there is a Business After Hours gathering today at 5:30 at Inter Decor on Rapoon Hill.

Civil Air Patrol is holding a drill on Saturday at 0900 hours.

Excelsior Talent is still looking for two dancers for the Miss Big and Beautiful contest Auditions are Sunday at CAHS room 218 at 3 PM.

WSTA has a new antenna.

After a few days of operating on a wire and a prayer, we are back to having a real antenna. We are back in full service to the Virgin Islands community. You can hear us clearly and thats our good news.
