Should we have a downtown Mall or not?

Governor Schneider is calling a meeting with all the relevant parties – mainstreet merchants, taxi drivers and police to decide the future of the main street mall.

Senator Vargrave Richards condemns the assault on an assistant principal at Elena Christian Jr. High School.

He has called for legislation that will automatically expel any student from the day program who assaults school faculty or staff.

Vitelco is seeking a rate increase to cover the cost of hurricane repairs.

Senator Donastorg thinks Vitelco should have had more insurance for their physical plant, and shouldn’t have to raise their rates to cover the cost of rebuilding.

Insurance is in the government news.

Senator White has called a public meeting today regarding insurance and Senator Berry thinks it’s cruel to hold hearings and not work to get a bill through the senate to replenish the Windstorm authorities funds. Meanwhile Senator Hansen has introduced a bill to pay Virgin Islands Windstorm insurance authority claims out of the V.I. Insurance Guaranty Fund.

Dept of Housing, Parks and Recreations is holding a public meeting on Wednesday the 17th at Victors New Hideout to plan recreational activities in the territory.

WAPA is holding a meeting of its governing board on Wednesday at 9 AM at the conference room of the St. Thomas Administration building 5 Antilles Gas – 9 AM and 4 PM 5 Red Hook Family Practice 8 AM and 1 PM 5

The Virgin Islands Calypso Association and the Reichhold Center for Performing Arts are sponsoring the Virgin Islands Music Awards this March.

If you are involved with any music production during 1995 your music can be on the ballot. There are 24 different award catagories and applications are available at Modern Music, Parrot Fish, International Records and Tapes, and Elegance 2 in Tutu Park Mall.

Rotary is meeting today at L’Escargo at 6 PM.

The featured guest will be Kirk Grybowsky of VITEMA.

Eudora Kean upperclassmen are taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude test Battery this week at the armory. Seniors, you take the test tomorrow.

You will benefit from practicing standardized tests and you’ll learn something about your future career. And the Kean guidance department is holding a financial aid workshop for parents and seniors today at the school library. That will help you get funds for college.

The Freshwater Yankees are going to present the Red Cross with a $15,000 check on Wednesday at 10:30 in Bluebeards Castle Hotel.

Charlotte Amalie High School – PTSA is meeting this evening at 5:30 in the high school auditorium.

Kirwin Elementary PTA is meeting on Thursday at 5:30.

The St. Croix Environmental Association and the Nature Conservancy are presenting a Saturday Environment Club for kids ages 9 to 12.

There will be lots of hand-on activities. The first meeting is at Little Princess Estate on January 27th. Call Dianne 773- 1989.
