Parade Winners
The Carnival Committee has announced this years Parade winners. In the Children’s parade, the top Troupe under 50 members is Celebration by Alrid Lockhart. Best Floupe is The Old Lady who Lived in a Shoe, Charming Twirlers took the majorettes prize, Coins of our Heroines was the best individual entry, A Children’s Place , took best float. In the Adult parade, the Best Small troupe was Enchantments of Jam Band,, Mid size troupes was the Gypsy Troupe with Market Day, best Big troupe was The Jester’s Tribute to Milo. Best small floupe was Salute to African Queens, best big Floupe was Elskoe and Associates with Freedom Street. The best float was the Miss UVI Queen, St. Croix Majorettes took top spot in their competition, Litter Critter was the top individual, Traditional Mocko Jumbie were the best Mocko Jumbies and The Traditional Indians were the best traditional entry. The Road March Winner is Wadablee’s for his hit tune – This One is for Milo. That’s a double crown for Wadablee since he also took the MSI Calypso award too.

Virgin Islands Humanities Council Installs New Board
The new Board of Directors was installed on St. Croix. The new members of the Humanities Council are Kerry Drue, Cassandra Dunn, Tulip Fleming, Stanley Jones and Ruby Simmonds. The Council is coordinating grants to explore the events around the 150th anniversary of Emancipation.
Bishop Announces Appointment
Bishop Elliott G. Thomas announcing that the Pope John Paul the Second has appointed Auxiliary Bishop George Murray of Chicago to serve as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands – He will assist Bishop Thomas in the administration of the diocese and succeed Bishop Thomas on his retirement in three years when he turns 75.

The proud parents of Anne Marie Jordan announced that she represented the Virgin Islands in the Ms. Atlanta Caribbean Folk Festival in Atlanta Georgia. She did not win the event, but she put on a good show.
Property and Procurement Seeks Bidders
The Dept. of Property and Procurement is seeking bids to reconstruct the drainage around Mongoose Junction St. John. Bids are due May 7th. They are also seeking bids to reconfigure the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center Bids are due May 14th. The Government is taking bids from contractors for a new community Multi-purpose Center in Savan. There is a pre-bid conference in P&P May 14th at 2:00 PM Bids are due May 26th
Senate in Full Session today
The Senate is meeting now for a discussion of election of the Attorney General. The debate is also shading into the topic of term limits for Senators.
Lull in Barge War
The ramps at Red Hook are open to Republic Barge company while related matters go to court. Republic is sailing from Red Hook to St. John and Boyson Inc is sharing the ramps with them.

Today is National Tourism Appreciation Day. The Department of Tourism held an appreciation ceremony at Emerald Beach Resort and Commissioner Wylie Whisonant honored members of the Hospitality Industry on St. Thomas And St. John. Some of the bhonorees are – Winston Alternative from Fr, Antonio Rodgers of the Taxi Association, Geneva Dixon of Carib Beach resort, Cleo Foster of Emerald Beach Resort, Garfield Charles of Caneel Bay resort, Bernadette Penny Matthews of Sapphire Beach resort. The Ritz nominated four of their staff – Petulah Lewis, Theodora Penna, James Rogers and Ethyl Smith. The Department of Tourism honored Carolyne Polydore, and Police officer Corporal Liston Hodge was honored. There was also special honors for James Gumbs, Georgia Frances and Jo Sandra Jones James.
