The Pump House is Getting a Roof
I noticed it yesterday and confirmed it today, the pump house on Long Bay Road is getting a roof. It has been the subject of many comments from this microphone. I thought it was the ugliest thing to have in the middle of the most beautiful view of the harbor and the ships. Now the pump house is getting a new roof.

Team Caribbean Update
The Team Caribbean is out of the racing for the America’s Cup practice races in NZ – they came in third. That’s pretty good. They lost to the Italian team, and when the Italians got to race against Team New Zealand, they got clobbered. The Team Caribbean certainly put our islands on the map in international sailing circles. In their final standings, Team Caribbean is third among the challengers.

Love Boat is Back
This isn’t local news, but it will make a difference here. The Love Boat is coming back to television. The TV show set on a cruise ship is bound to make millions of viewers of the show yearn for cruise ship travel. And we know where they will come. We should make an effort to have the Love Boat story shot for television with the Virgin Islands as the backdrop to the show.
Senate Consultants Almost Ready
The Senate panel seeking independent insights into the Hess Agreement says their report will be ready by May 5th. Burke says that 20- years is a long time for no tax revenue, and she wants to have the agreement open for renegotiating every 5 years. with a formula for paying some taxes when the company is profitable. Sounds like corporate income tax to me
National Tourism Week Coming Up
It may be Carnival, but coming up right after Carnival is National Tourism Week and the Governor has declared the first week of May is Tourism Week and the whole month is Tourism Month in the Virgin Islands. Our local Department of Tourism has a week chock full of activities. A lot of this years activities focus on the 150th Anniversary of Emancipation Commemoration. There is a Tourist for a Day Experience and the Open House coming up May 7th on all three islands. Did you know that 8000 people in the Virgin Islands have jobs directly related to tourism.
May is Also Older American Month
The Governor declared May as Older American Month with the theme – “Living Longer Growing Stronger in the American Paradise.” He commends our senior citizens for their continued involvement, commitment, dedication, understanding, shrewdness, prudence, insights and enormous contributions to our society including passing on our cultural history and heritage to our younger generation.
