Rain Calls off Prince and Princess Competition

It rained yesterday and the inclement weather forced the postponement of the Prince and Princess Competition. That event has been postponed to April 17th at 8:00 PM at Lionel Roberts Stadium

Hess Says Senators Want too Much

Some Senators have started their campaign to get concessions from Hess before they approve the deal to merge with the Venezuelan oil company. But Hess says some of the requests are out of line with what they can realistically deliver. Hess has been running at a loss for years, they have made special efforts to hire more local workers and they have instituted special training programs. But calls for free fuel for WAPA, 10 million gallons of water per week to WAPA, free street lighting throughout the territory and computers for every school child exceeds the bounds of Hess’s capabilities.

Walking on Sunshine – Picks Stars !

The new TV show being shot on St. Croix has picked some of the players. Robert Luke of Isle 95 will play a bartender. Two students Cameron Haase and Ruby Ann Des Jardins will play hotel guests. Over 150 islanders have been selected to play extra parts. Filing begins on Thursday in Christiansted and ends on Friday on Buck Islands. Boat owners are asked to avoid Buck Island on Friday

The Public Finance Authority is looking for tenants for its recently completed construction at Frederiksted Mall. At Strand Street and King St. There is 10,795 square feet of leased space and room for a new restaurant and professional offices. If you are interested 772-1000

Rolex Regatta Goes to Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef Team

Home town winners are always good news and this year’s Rolex regatta is over and the winner is the team of Chris Rosenberg and Charles Engeman representing Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef. In 20 knot winds with 3 to 5 foot swells, the race called for excellent handling skills of all the sailors. Fourth Place when to a boat named Passion crewed by local folks’ Kirk Grybowsky and his son Keith who came home just to sail in this race.

Senate on Holiday Today

The senate is not holding a session today for Easter Monday, nor tomorrow On Wednesday the Full senate will meet to consider a long slate of nominees and a bill to provide for direct election of the Attorney General

There is an Easter Egg hunt on April 13th at noon to 4:00 PM at the American Red Cross St. Croix at Estate Castle Coakley. Games, prizes and prizes for the best performers. This week is the 81st annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church with nightly Bible study and an old fashioned revival long with a missionary service April 17th. Get Fit on Saturday 18th The Conference banquet is Saturday evening at Gertrude’s Restaurant.. Virgin Islands Association for Independent Living will sponsor a program for the deaf and hard of hearing with peer counseling for the deaf. The meeting is Monday April 13th at 5:30 PM at the VIAIL offices #5 Seventh St Estate Thomas Department of Education has a national teleconference with Vice President Al Gore on the topic Creating Quality After School Programs. That’s on Thursday the 16th at 3:30 PM to 4:30 Parents, teachers, principals and policy makers are invited to attend

Easter Bonnet Competition

Sunday was Easter and after all the church services in the morning, there was the SPARKS Easter Bonnet competition with 30 beautiful hats on display. Mr. And Mrs Sparks popularity were Leander Mark, and Shane Jurgen. The Prettiest hat was worn by Cheryl Hyndman. Most creative was a hat made of aluminum soda can tabs worn by Anna Quetel.

Water Island Report

Yes, there really is a Water Island Christian Assembly with Reverends Dedree and Jack Swindel. On Easter there was an overflow congregation for Dedree’s concert service. It may not be a BIG congregation but there is a BIG spirit in this church. Happy Easter to all.
