Three Dept. Heads Get Sworn in Today

The Governor held a swearing- in ceremony at Government House. He swore-in Juan Centeno as head the Dept. of Finance. Lindel A. Williams as Commissioner of Public Works, and Joseph Aubain as director of the Internal Revenue Bureau. The Governor also has a press conference today at 2:00 PM – and we will bring that to you live.

Two Doctors Are Certified

In the world of medicine, the mark of approval of your medical work is certification by the national board in your field. Dr. Lauretta Coumarbatch has just been certified in Pediatrics and Dr. Frank Odlum has been certified by the American Board of Surgeons. Both doctors are graduates of CAHS in the Class of 1983.

We have a Presidential Scholar Candidate

The President declares the top American students in US High Schools Presidential scholars and this year, Bethany Petretti of All Saints Cathedral High School has made it to the top 2,600 students among 2.5 million students expected to graduate this year. We will know in April if she is one of the finalists in the Presidential Scholar

Senate Meeting today

The Senate is in session today with a long list of honors and name changes to consider. They have a bill to honor Vietnam war veterans, a bill to rename Gallow’s Bay Gardens for Susana-Ocasio, to name the St. Croix Container port the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Port, they can vote to honor Ruth E. Thomas, Ruby Rouse and Gordon Finch may get his name attached to the Molasses Pier. We’ll keep you posted.

It Must be Pageant Season

The season of the pageants is upon us. We have the Carnival Queen contest getting going with 7 candidates. Acia Brathwaite, Rashida Hodge, Tynell Frances, Ashley Ruth Moolenaar, Devaney Blyden, Owanna Lans, and Terriya Thomas. They made their debut on Saturday. The queen event is April 18th. Virgin Islands Carnival Committee has a web site. www.vicarnival.com There is another pageant coming up too, that’s the Lions Club local Miss USVI for the Miss Universe Pageant that’s March 1st with four contestants, Leah Webster, Marsha Brathwaite, Shakeema George and Sophie Nellie. And we have a winner already. Kari-Ann Hodge of Berthe C. Boschulte won the Miss FHA/HERO Queen of Queen’s pageant on Saturday at CAHS. This is the beginning of FHA HERO week in the Virgin Islands.

Congressman Rangle Day

The Governor honored Congressman Charles Rangle during his recent visit to the Virgin Islands. The Governor cited the congressman for his leadership in areas that matter to our islands. Like the Drug war, the federal empowerment zone and his work as ranking member of the House Ways and Means committee. Friday was named Congressman Rangle Day in the Virgin Islands. The Governor Also honored Henry Kimelman on Saturday for his years of work in our philanthropy sector and years of service to the American people in various government roles.

Comacho Introduces Magistrates Court

Senator Comacho has introduced new legislation to create a magistrate’s court to relieve the court congestion in the Territorial Court. The Magistrates would hear small claims, traffic offenses, cases of littering. The bill goes before the Committee on Government Operations

Water Island Report

Wind from the south-west put real waves in Honeymoon bay over the weekend for the annual auction. The Auction lasted all day. All the stuff that was in the attic now has a new attic ready for next year’s auction. “It’s your turn to own this stuff”
