The ceremony is today to mark the reopening of the regions top hotel resort complex. And what a reopening it is. Frenchman’s Reef is now 45 million dollars more plush, there is a million dollars of new landscaping, new pools, new furniture and a whole new vista fromt the lobby that will blow your socks off. No Halt to Waterfront Development
The Senate Planning and Environmental Protection Committee voted yesterday to table a motion to put a stop to all waterfront development until the Land Use Plan is Approved. Senator Petrus introduced the plan calling for pressure on the government to complete the land use plan.
The keep the School Accreditation – What do we have to Fix?
The three big high schools got their accreditation – you already know that. The Accreditation board said they needed to see improvement to continue the accreditation, and they want improvement in student and teacher attendance, local control of the budget, and provisions for substitute teachers.
Coral Bay Gets Three Phase Electricity
Not having a storm can do wonders for our electrical lines. WAPA announced that off island line crews who were here – “just in case we had a storm” used their free time to complete a three phase electrical line to the Coral Bay area. This all makes better electrical service.
Nisky Center is Growing
You can hardly miss the major improvement at Nisky Center. There are more stores and more people. Nisky Center has been expanding and now there’s Noah’s Ark, Earle Advertising and STAT studio, Hillside Secretarial, The Red Cross opened offices in Nisky. That’s five new tenants in December alone. And three more are coming in January Santa and the Caribbean Dance School will host a Christmas Gingerbread House Party at Nisky Center today and Sunday from 1 to 6:00 PM – face painting, door prizes, pinyatas, disco and movies for children.
Senate Passes Quarterly Taxes.
The Senate continued its session yesterday and passed a bill that will permit the taxpayers to pay taxes in quarterly payments. That’s going to the governor for his signature. The Senate Committee on Environmental Planning met this morning to examine coastal zone management permits.
Mapp Says the Checks are Ready.
Lieutenant Governor Mapp says the refund checks from Island National are ready and the 500 residents who are due funds should have the money before Christmas. If you are supposed to receive a refund contact the Insurance Guarantee Association.
Students Show Service Side
Students at CAHS are helping the Women’s Resource Center. The students gathered donations including food, towels, clothing and health and comfort aids for donation.. Thanks to Lisa Hassel-Ford and Denise Humphrey. And at the Ivanna Eudora Kean School, the junior ROTC students collected canned goods, cereals, and other health aids for the Women’s Resource Center.
