Beacon Schools Celebrity Tourney
Former football star Ed Jones isn’t just “Too Tall”, he’s also too good to top at the Mahogany Run golf course. Jones and his team of David Entwistle, Tom Johnson and Art Egger shot 52 at a weekend celebrity tournament benefitting Beacon Schools of the Virgin Islands, winning second place was the team of Patrick Hughes, Bill Collins, Aaron Patrick and Barry Florence. Florence, former President of AT&T of the Virgin Island helped organizer the fund raiser to help fund the latest development in community oriented education. Beacon School programs debut in the territory this fall

Dominican Prime Minister
Dominican Prime Minister Edison James visited the V.I. this weekend. While addressing his countrymen and women living in the territory. The prime minister extended refuge to the volcano plagued people of Montserrat .. “If it be required, Dominica can accommodate all Montserratians who wish to live there,” said James.
Shikima Apollo Bound
21-year old Shikima Jones is on her way to Harlem’s famous Apollo Theater for a shot at stardom. Jones, now a member of the staff at Government House says she’s excited about her trip to New York and her appearance as part of the Apollo’s amateur night, where she plans to sing Toni Braxton’s. “How Can an Angel Break my Heart”, it will be seen locally on television in the weeks to come. She is a graduate of the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School where she studied music with JoSandra Jones James. If Jones wins the Amateur Night competition, she says she may be eligible for a recording contract
Lt. Gov Staff Raises Good news for the staff of Lt. Governor Kenneth Mapp. Many of them got salary increases. Of the 84 staff members serving under the Lt. Governor 48 got raises, according to records kept by the Senate’s post audit division. Executive assistant Kennedy Khabo said those who got raises also got added responsibilities.
And So They Were Married… Charlie DeLugo and Dawm Smutz wanted to celebrate their wedding on beautiful Magen’s Bay Saturday August 16, but sudden illness sent Charlie to the hospital. Their friends at Austin Advertising released a statement saying even an attack of apendicitis couldn’t stop Dawn and Charlie’s wedding day as they got married at the hospital chapel. And yes, they said, the groom is recovering well

It’s almost time for the Labor Day Festival in Coral Bay St. John. The schedule of activities for the three day holiday weekend begins August 30 with a cookout, 10 a.m. and an arts and crafts fair. Sunday August 31 the crafts fair continues at 2 p.m. with music by local steel bands. And on Labor Day September 1 Coral Bay hosts its famous mini parade. The smallest parade in the Virgin Islands at 10 a.m. followed by a day long food fair along Centerline Road, live music and a volleyball tournament at the Guy Benjamin basketball court.
