Judith Watson is one of the Most Powerful People in Travel

Judith Watson has been in the news before, last time as one of 100 rising stars in the travel industry, now she has been named by Travel Agent Magazine as one of the 200 Most Powerful Women in Travel. Only 34 women involved with destinations were among the 200.

27 Medals in the US Youth Games

The Governor had high praise for the team we sent to New York City for the US Youth Games. At the last minute they got $19,000 from the lottery to send the team.They won 27 medals. 6 Gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals at the US Youth Games. Good Work.

Department of Tourism Goes North

The Department of Tourism is going to assault the travel business in the Northeast. They are sending the Virgin Islands Callings team to Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey. They will be hosting seminars on travel to the Virgin Islands for travel agents.

What about the Phone Rate Reduction?

Senator Donastorg is surprised. The Public Services Commission was sent a proposal that suggested VITELCO reduce its phone rates by 20% following the tax breaks they got. The proposal was endorsed by all 15 Senators. The Public Services Commission said they’d tabled the proposal. They’ll investigate and windfall profit at VITELCO.

Dept. of Public Works – FAST!

Dept. of Public Works are so fast. They won’t close Kongen’s Gade today because they already been there and gone. Same tomorrow, they are going to work from early morning to repaint the lines without closing the road during the day.

Peace Corp. School

Peace Corp School grades 1 through 6 and special education will open on August 25th at 7:45 AM for a full day of school. On August 26th the kindergarten will register students beginning at 7:00 AM – to 10:00 AM – Everyone should have the uniform – The plaid for the girl’s skirts is at the Fabric Store. Call 775-3220

Red Cross Needs Volunteers

Red Cross is looking for new volunteers and they are offering some classes to bring you in. This coming week, the Red Cross will teach disaster mental health for professionals, Administering a Disaster Operation, and Introduction to Disaster Services. Call 774-0375

Rocky to Lorraine “Paddle Together!”

Rocky wrote to Lorraine Berry asking to hold a meeting to resolve the budget. Lorraine says the Finance Committee Hearings should do that, she tried to get a Financial Control Board, but the Governor vetoed the legislation. Now Rocky has written back. He tells the story of two men in a boat on a river. The engine dies and they are headed toward the waterfall. One is intent on arguing over who is at fault for the dead engine,. The other says they have paddles, but the argue until the boat goes over the edge. Senator Rocky says we all have to put our hands on the paddles together.

Luis A. Gomez Makin’ Good News

Luis A. Gomez of Hess Oil Virgin Islands is making good news. He recently received his professional engineer’s license. The grueling 16 hour exam is no party. Few pass the professional engineer exam. Gomez got an A. That’s Luis A. Gomez making good news.
